Walking a tight rope with front legs.

This is just academic now as the horse is long gone.

While reading an article about SI injuries and horse walking a tight rope with hind legs it made me think of one of my horses. He was walking with one front foot directly in front of the other. Vet couldn’t figure out what was causing this. Since he wasn’t my only horse and did not seem to be distressed I just gave him time off. He didn’t look balanced enough for me to want to ride him and I knew something was not right.

Can’t remember how long this lasted but completely resolved on its own.

Any idea what could have caused this?

A lot of things, from soreness in the medial sides of the feet, to muscle spasm in the pecs, to something in the withers or shoulders, to bruising or other injury in the sternum area, to lots of other things.

A lot of base narrow horses or horses that toe out will tightrope or plait. I have a base narrow, slightly cow-hocked TWH that tightropes with the rear legs only. When he had back issues (SI and hips) it got worse. Chiro, acupuncture and stretches helped.
