Want to ride again, need advice, help finding eventing barns in Indianapolis area!

Hi Everyone,
I need some advice because I’m not really sure how to go about with my situation. I started horse-back riding lessons when was 6 yrs old and immediately fell in love. I then got my first pony at age 10 and participated in 4-H for 4 years, and then at age 14, I got my event horse. I then joined pony club (up to C2 rating) and began to compete in two-day event shows all over the Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky area. I basically lived and breathed riding all through high school, but once I started my freshman year of college my riding had to take a break for the time being. Sadly, half way through the school year my event mare had an acute case of colic where her small intestine ruptured and she passed on the operating table down at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY. It took me a long time to get over it and for awhile I wanted nothing to do with riding or eventing. Years have passed and other responsibilities such as school loans, bills, cars, jobs, and apartments have consumed my life. I miss eventing/riding tremendously and I would absolutely love to get back into the saddle. However, I can’t really afford a horse, board or any of the other high expenses that comes along with this remarkable sport. So I’m asking if anyone could give me some advice on what I should do next; or if they know of any barns in the Indianapolis area that needs someone to exercise horses for them, or can give lessons for a reasonable price it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Maybe LAZ at Come Again Farm can help you ~ she’s local.

Lee Ann’s is great but she doesn’t have lesson horses. Depending on what side of Indy you’re on you might have a few options. Dan Hobyn Stables (Rachel Skirvin) has lesson horses/lease situations. Feel free to PM me.

Depending on what side of town you are on and how far you are willing to drive, Up N Over Stables is in Bloomington. I’ve also heard of Greystone Eventing at IRUS Stables in the Lebanon area.

On the Rail is also another eventing barn although I don’t know if they have lesson horses.

On the rail has lesson horses.
I don’t think Greystone does.
Up n over used to, not sure if they do currently… However they are an hour from Indy.

I don’t have any lesson horses–I think up here on the north side you’ve got Penny Oaks, may Eron has some at Greystone, Lisa at On The Rail (but hers are primarily beginner) on the south side you have Dan Hobyn, Fairland Farm ( don’t think they have schooling, though). Kim Neumeyer is in Lafayette and Nad/Sherry Noon are in Bloomington. I apologize if Im leaving anyone out!

Hope everyone recognizes the subtle beauty of eventing in LAZ’s post. Even tho we compete, we’re also a family. Lee Ann just gave everyone on the board a pretty darn complete listing of her local business competion.

Thank you everyone for all the advice! . . . I live on the south side right past 465 so Dan Hobyn and Fairland Farm has really stood out to me.

Thanks–I try to be a decent person, sometimes I miss, but I do try.
