Wanted: Colored Tattersall Vest for Cubbing

I have a question for my fashionable foxhunters. Where can I find “colored” (yet field appropriate) vests for cubbing? Every search turns up loads of cream/beige checked vests with the same variation of navy, maroon, black and gold lines. I know Horse Country once carried both a pale blue and soft green/brown vest a few years ago and I have seen other colors in photographs. Any suggestions as to where I might locate a gray, green, blue or brown vest? It’s warm for our cubbing season so a vest (with personality) would be a welcome addition to my informal wardrobe.

Tattersal is the check pattern woven in to the cloth. Are you looking for the pattern or a plain colour ?

Don’t believe the colours on the initial pic. There is a swatch in the details.
The Ladies Tweed may suit your description.

Thanks Equibrit. In my mind I was picturing a pattern on a background color other than cream. I’m all for the check/plaid but am hoping to find more autumnal, tweed-y look rather than the usual tattersall commonly found here in the states.

Although based on the website link I could try to find a nice solid in my hunt’s colors…

I’ve looked without much luck. I’m starting to think that having one made might be the way to go, and probably no more expensive than one from Horse Country

I have no personal knowledge of this company but it certainly has interesting things for sale, including unique waistcoats http://thehuntingshop.co.uk/

This company will make them up as you wish http://www.huntingstockmarket.co.uk/shop/Waistcoats/33.aspx

And by the way, this is where one can find unusual hunting whips

Our hunt club cubbing attire is Sartorial splendor with varieties of color in tweeds, stock ties and vests, breeches and even boots. Other than the often seen brown boots, we have a handful of New Markets. I wear mine with rust breeches, a green shirt and stock tie, a Madras plaid tweed jacket (from 1960s --my first hunt coat!) and a knitted wheat color vest. I do have other cubbing tweeds --a blue one that I wear with a dark blue shirt and stock and light blue vest with a moss color breeches, and a grey one (extremely heavy) that I wear with black breeches, vest and a light pink stock tie. And I might add, I’m one of the more conservative turned out riders. I think it’s a reaction to the absolutely strict policies of dress that we follow the rest of the year-- or we just like to enjoy the variety. Some ladies have absolutely-to-die-for silk stock ties in splendid hues and patterns.

Yes! And don’t look at the photo of the whole vest; rather, zoom in on the swatch. Some of them are quite lovely. The zoomed-out picture really doesn’t represent the variety available at all. It’s quite misleading.

I did miss the selection on the first round. I’ve also expanded my search to several shooting sites that have fitted vests. Quality is quality and beautiful fabric and craftsmanship can make your mouth water but I’m sometimes amazed at the prices for a garment with no sleeves…

Try the UK ebay site and look for ‘tatterstall or tattersall check waist coat’ and see what is there for a couple of quid.
