'ware hole!

It’s nice to see a smartly turned out field of riders and horses.

Also nice to see folks passing along the aw ring verbally and visually…and not every rider, whether because it’s just truly not necessary, or because they are doing all they can at the moment to keep it together.

This is a situation where it’s nice if the field doesn’t get strung out. The message of ware “xxxx” is able to be efficiently communicated from the first to notice it to the back of the field if you are a few strides behind rather than 10.

The ponies are so cute. (and those kids can all ride rings around me.)

It is best to give the visual cue when moving at speed, first, because folks behind can’t really hear you, and second, you don’t want to be so loud as to distract hounds. In my experience folks can be a bit too loud with the warning at slower speeds as well- you really should just pass the info to the rider behind. If there is a big gap as in this field (which as noted is not a good thing), well, you should be paying attention anyway! And trust the horse, a good field hunter is worth its weight in gold because it does pay attention to and avoid holes.

Thank you for saying that! When I hunted last weekend, I pointed at a hole at one point- a hold over from cycling when you point/gesture at hazards because you can’t always hear from the rate of speed you are traveling or because of road noise. After I did it, I questioned whether it got the point across (no one complained about falling in a hole behind me, so I assume others missed it!).

Lovely video, of what I can see! Stupid thing won’t load all the way!!

“Hole on the right!” “On the left!”. Hard being a kid and not knowing the difference I guess
