Warm, long lasting WINTER riding boots?

Sorry to bring this up in mid September! But the chill of the mornings here reminded me that I need new winter riding boots this year. I have some old Mountain Horse Ice High Rider boots that are ready to retire.

They were decent boots, except I found the seam at the back of the ankle gave out fairly quickly.

What are your favourites? If they are somewhat fashionable and come in a brown option, that’s a bonus:D

I saw some BR winter riding boots that were sheepskin lined a few years ago that looked nice, anybody have those?

Any new models coming out this year that look interesting?

My Ariat Bromonts are going on their 4th year and I love them. Warm, comfy and no breaking in. I was nervous about buying Ariat as I had heard quality had declined but I’ve had no issues.

I second the Bromont boots - they are a decent price and last for years.

I bought a pair of men’s polo boots (brown) that are very comfortable, durable, and warm. Menswear is made to last! Mens boots are also cut roomier in the foot/ankle, so there is plenty of room for socks and bootwarmers. I think they look pretty fashionable now, but they did look pretty wacky (stiff/large) before I broke them in. I have a wide foot and calf, so this might not work for you if you need a slim boot.

I love love loved my muck boot brit colts- warm, waterproof, and i rode in them all the time. Then I got thinner and they are too big now. :frowning: I think I paid 119 for them.

I don’t have a good recommendation, but can not recommend Mountain Horse. The zippers on my winter boots are a disaster - they’ve been replaced multiple times and now the boots sit. Too expensive to keep replacing!

I didn’t have problems with the zippers - but had the ankle seam rip on mine - so not on my option list this year!

Also like the Bromonts…

I have to say, although not the most attractive boots per se :o, my Blizzard Winter Boots have been awesome.

They are very warm, easy to get on and off, and believe it or not, my same pair has lasted me almost 20 years!! I think I am finally going to replace them this winter since the stitching is starting to come apart. The best part is that they are pretty cheap. I think I paid less than $40 for them back in 1998. They dont come in brown though…

I went an alternate route with Ariat winter paddock boots and insulated half chaps. Most insulated tall boots are anywhere from 2-6" too short for me and always catch on the saddle flap. I stumbled across the Ariat chaps (tall height, no less) on a clearance rack several years ago. It has been the best option for me, and the combination is coming up on 8 years (chaps) and 5 years for the boots.

My MH boots developed multiple cracks over the top of the foot area partway through the first winter. I just bought a pair of Ariat H2O Extreme tall boots, but I thought the calf would be a little more roomy and they are TIGHT (on bare skin).

My Dublin River boots held up to some hard wear over a few winters before one of the seams let loose. With a thick pair of socks, they kept my feet toasty, and I was able to get a decent amount on resale even with the bad seam. Though I should have just repaired them instead of getting the MH boots.

I had the Middleburg ones for a long time–went through two pairs. They’re really only good for chilly but not freezing temperatures.

Last year I bought the Bromonts and I loooooove them. They fit well (I’m short, so I just have a pair of heel lifts in them), they are comfortable, and they are very, very warm. And I’m in Buffalo.

Wow, lots of votes for the Bromont - going to go try some on!

Another for Ariat Bromonts!

I’ve had my Bromonts going on 3 years and they are still good as new…well a little scuffed, but warm and dry.

Another vote for the Bromonts! I have the paddock boots-two pair and very happy with them

Another thumbs up for the Ariat Bromonts - I have Raynaud’s and they even keep my perpetually-frozen feet warm! I’ve had them a few years now and they still look great.

I have Ariat winter boots. I don’t know the name, they predate the Bromonts. But I know they’re at least 10 years old and still going strong. I have learned that if I can use different boots for mucking stalls my riding boots will last longer, that urine really takes a toll on the boots.

Excellent point!

I have a pair of Fuller Fillies Field boots that are a size too large in the calf. They can stretch to 19"

With a pair of T-Max socks or similar, I can ride through the winter no problem. I wear Muck Boots for the wet/snow/mud though
