With clear protocols of what happens if a horse is positive in something, how many days they had to be clear, what happened if they weren’t, etc.

Just spoke with a friend who has imported 4 or 5 and they never signed a contract with the initial Q facility. Said everything was included in the shipping package until the horse left the initial arrival quarantine facility. Presumably the shipping agents arranged and signed everything acting as owners authorized agent. My friend said they got a big, fat folder of paperwork but none of theirs spent more then 24 hours and were home within 48 hrs of touchdown. So they never looked.
Maybe that’s something to ask to specifically see when importing.

Since there is only one west coast import station, they have a monopoly on what they can charge for their services.
This whole saga has been very educational for me. I don’t see a scenario in which I would be importing a horse, but if ever, there are plenty of things that happened here that I would ask about prior to agreeing to importation that I never considered before this.
It seems like the import agent who did not make the family aware of the potential pitfalls and additional costs should be held somewhat responsible, but I’m guessing that they are Euro based. Good luck suing them.
Not to be negative nellie - but if miracle of all miracles and Hireno comes back negative tomorrow - is Jet Pets going to release him without payment in full? The bill has to be north of $20k at this point.

Imagine they will to free up the facility to return to normal business. They can work out payment through the regular channels and don’t need anymore publicity.
If they have been completely shut down and are “the only import station on the west coast” where have west coast imports been handled the past month and a half?

i haven’t been to Jet Pets in years, but my recollection is that there’s more than one barn, but some are larger than others. If that’s the case maybe they could use the other barns?
