How was the weather & footing?
I was surprised to see that they ran. According to CEO, there were a few races with just two horses and a couple of walk-overs. I wonder how it was for getting cars in and out.
I didn’t go, and was surprised that they ran. However, the weather wasn’t quite as bad as predicted (no heavy rain or t-storms). I’m sure the course and parking lots were a mess. There is simply no place for the water to go anymore; the ground is like a sopping wet sponge.
Here is the list of races and entries (you can see a lot of folks scratched, many at the last minute):

And here are the results (my farrier was running in one of the “walkover” races; no, he wasn’t the winner):

Weather today is worse than it was yesterday! I now have some prime “lakefront” property.
Geez I went…!!
I went. Never seen so much rain gear! An advisement for Barbours, Outback coats, rain hats, etc!! Muddy, terrible mess with parking nightmarish. They had lots of tractors to pull. They even pulled the horse trailers INTO the place so they could park!
Other than race officials and hunt members; it was a very sparse crowd indeed with tents! Gentle rain & spritzed all day. Most entries scratched. At least 4 races were walkovers, 2 races with 2 horses then the flat race actually had enough to split into 2 divisions of 6 so everyone got all excited to actually see horses!!!
But heck, everyone was wet, smiling and in a good mood! Thanks to the WH hospitality tent which was party central and the best place to hang. Horsepeople are just plain crazy I tell you! Crazy!! God Bless the Warrenton Hunt members for all their work & effort under trying times!
Lots of hunt folks talking about their hunt seasons and trips south for hunting too. I hated them of course!!:mad: And didn’t catch any good hunts gossip so…Saw Hunters Rest with her fancy new camera cover! No plastic baggies for her, nosirreeee!!
I’m working as paddock clerk for the Bull Run races next sunday so if you’re there, come by & visit! Piedmont on Sat. That weekend oughta be interesting. Piedmont doing timber races and BR carding hurdles so…and they kinda draw different gate crowds so it might work. We’ll see.
thanks for the reports!
Glad to see most are soldiering on!
Very glad to hear the WH put on a great Show, esp. at the
Clubhouse level!!!
I was thinking, that with all the entries, at least horses &
trainers are on track with racing----just need some co-operation
from the weather!
Good luck next weekend!
We’ll following all the news from the great brown North!

Was supposed to have horses go to both races this weekend, but alas one is now out for the season and the other has a big leg.
Entries look promising at Piedmont, not so much for Bull Run.
A friend of mine rode 3 at Warrenton, he said the footing was awful, but not as bad as he’s seen.
I didn’t go, to busy getting ready for a little show Sunday and lessons, but…my favorites did really well! Hey Doctor and Antonio Star both had seconds and another one I sometimes ride, Endless Mountain, won. A good weekend and I think the horses were happy to finally be doing something, they are wise (especially Antonio!) and know they should be running now In a barn filled with such awesome horses to get to work every morning, it’s pretty cool to watch the ones I really have bonded with do so well.
I’m hoping to go to Piedmont, and so happy racing season started again, what a winter we had!
