Washers and Dryers

Talk to me about your barn washer and dryers!

We need electric, single phase, for a commercial barn. But I’ve been told the oversized residential ones often work better than the regular commercial one.

I don’t have a barn BUT I did just shop for washers and I needed one that could handle a horse blanket. After our Whirlpool one broke and we were out of the warranty I wanted something that was going to last. I apparently am hard on our washer. Three dogs, a kid, a horse, and a little obsessive about washing rugs, sheets, mats, pillows, etc. We ended up getting a Speed Queen which is what they use in laundry mats. The parts have a warranty up to 10 years and then some additional warranty for 20. It looks pretty basic, almost outdated but it does a great job and they assured me my horse blankets won’t kill it although time will tell. If they do it’s under warranty for 10 years

Does it fit ok in a regular laundry room??

I have bought and recommended Maytag, front load, for decades.
Now Sears?? I think Sears has bought them, and the ones I bought last year are not as good as the ones I’ve bought over the decades. But they still wash my blankets.

At the stable I board at (30 stalls and busy in the winter with trainers from Ohio and their clients plus year round boarders) the BO bought one of the new top load non agitator washers last year. It was awful – didn’t get things clean. She then went out and bought an old fashioned top loader with a center agitator and it works great and so far has held up well to very heavy use.

Yep! Our old one was top load no agitator ( I wanted a soaking feature so avoided front load). This new Speed Queen is top load with agitator and is wonderful. The new one’s have agitators that don’t destroy things the way the old ones do. I believe is just goes a quarter of turn at a time or something like that. I’ve not had any issues with any laundry getting caught up on it.

I have a top load and it does great with blankets but not so well with saddle pads. Go figure.

TheJenners-If you’re talking about the Speed Queen top loader, it’s regular size and fits in a laundry space. However, they also make the huge commercial sets, and those won’t fit in a regular laundry space.

And if anyone is looking at Samsung top loaders, almost 3 million were recalled, and there may be some used ones out there that aren’t fixed.
