If you or the barn you board at have a washing machine capable of doing horse laundry (including winter blankets), could you tell me the make and model and how reliable it has been? Thanks.
I do horse blankets once a year in my LG front loader. 5.2 cuft capacity. No problems. I’m not washing a whole barn full but do about 3-7 loads of regular laundry per week. It gets things phenomenally clean. The only time it has issues is if you put in something heavy without a mate to balance the spin cycle. So, one bath mat is bad, but two or three is fine. I have soft water so use very little detergent or it will over sud. That took me awhile to learn. 3 years old.
LG top load with no agitator, can’t remember the capacity, but it was the biggest one they sold at Lowe’s. It will handle all but the draft horse-size, extra-fill turnout blanket that came with a draft mule I used to have. It might have handled that one, too, but I was afraid to stuff it in there. I’ve had no maintenance issues with it in the 3(?) years that I’ve had it.
I feel like it doesn’t clean as well as the old front load washer that it replaced, though, so whenever this one goes (knock on wood it isn’t for many years), I’ll replace it with another front load.
Front load Whirlpool was able to wash my 78" Rambo Original as well as the heavyweight Wilsun Dry Horse (also 78").
Frontload Whirlpool
7 years?
Thumbs up!
Thanks. I have a large capacity, top load LG, and it has been a huge disappointment–doesn’t really get things clean and has broken down big time twice in two years. I was at Sears recently, and the salesman said frontload gets the laundry cleaner. They had a nice Whirlpool front load (6.2 cu). For those of you with Whirlpool, do you know the tub size?
