Water Purifier Cubes

Has anyone used the water purifier cubes in their water tanks? Might also be found under bio cubes? Description reads that cubes are charcoal, wash them to clean collected material and reuse for up to six months, even cleans out algae. Prices run $18-$20, depending on the seller.

We have a couple tanks they might be useful in, that are out in direct sun. Green stuff builds up fast, even with power washing often. Horses won’t drink well for over a week if tanks are scrubbed with dish soap or bleached. Plain brush scrubbing doesn’t really get rid of much greenery. These are older plastic Rubbermaid tanks, which have all those rough spots for greenery to anchor in.

A friend and I are considering using the cubes/blocks in 100 gallon tanks. We just don’t want to spend the money if they are ineffective. None of our other friends have used the cubes/blocks either, so no help there! Ha ha

I haven’t tried those but I use one 1” chlorine tab in my 100 gallon Rubbermaid tank and nothing grows in there. My horses don’t mind but yours might if they don’t like when you clean with bleach.

No, but when I was moving my horses cross-country 20 years ago, one layover was outside Flagstaff, AZ.

The old cowboy had squeaky clean, big steel stock tanks and sparkling water. I asked him how he managed that. He chuckled and said “Bluing. The same bluing your grandmother put in her white laundry”.

He said he never measured, just put “a couple of drops in”.

My horses happily drank that water and nobody died or got sick from it.

Bluing is still available in today’s world:cowboy_hat_face::cowboy_hat_face:

hubby designs water treatment plants - carbon absorbs some classes of chemicals well, is not going to keep your water trough clean of algae. A chunk of copper pipe will help with the algae.
