Wax Jacket

Dear All,

I am looking for a waxed raincoat to wear hunting-the kind with the cape and the leg straps. Money is definitely an object-ha. Any suggestions of brands that are functional and don’t tear up immediately but won’t break the bank as well?

Bought four off eBay in various weights and size. Don’t use two of them. If u would pm me and let me know what u want size and weight I might be able to send u one for postage. But be aware the real oilskins stink. They are canvas and motor oil. I prefer Drizabone.

OP has things mixed up.

The Australian type of coat with the cape is coarse “Oilskin”…stinky.
The English type of coat ie. Barbours, are fine waxed cotton…no stink.

Pay for the Barbour, buy the hood and liner at same time. They will all outlast you and are therefore worth the cost. Too warm in warmer climates, even w/o the liner. You need the hood for use when not riding.

I’ll second the nylon Packaroo duster. I also have waxed jackets–different kinds–and have found them to be heavy, difficult to clean, and not 100% waterproof in a downpour. Also, they are harder to pack.
