WB stallions that are homozygous for black?

Asking for a friend (who is as nutty about color as I am LOL). Dressage. Frozen is OK. Thanks so much for suggestions!

Harvard, Freestyle, Sandro Hit, Diamond Stud, Furstenball, Finest, Dante Weltino, Sagnol, Rubinero, Hotline. I’m sure there are more.

Donarweiss

I adore Sir Oldenburg and I believe he is HZ black …

And I am wowed by the offspring of his that I have seen so far as well

Ehrentanz KD is a lovely younger stallion who is HZ black. He is doing the 7 year old jumpers, and just graduated to 2nd level dressage. Our colt by him is 5 weeks, and we are thrilled with his movement, conformation, and disposition.

Gatsby. http://www.mountaincreeksporthorses.com/gatsby/ He’s high on my list!

Rosenthal is homozygous for black points.

Thank you all for the suggestions, they are much appreciated!

You do know that being HZ for black (E/E) and being black - visually and genetically - are not necessarily the same thing?

Some of the stallions mentioned are E/E but are genetically and visually brown or bay. They aren’t black and wont necessarily produce black - they just cant produce chestnut in their offspring … Only E/e stallions can produce red based offspring …

That is absolutely a good point to keep in mind. All of the stallions mentioned above can and have produced bay horses. They just can’t produce a red-based coat (chestnut, palomino, or cremello).

Another one I will add to the list as homozygous EE is Sure Hit (although only available now via frozen).

Yes thank you, I am aware of that. Ah if only it were so “easy” as to pick a certain stallion and be guaranteed that the model and color you want will arrive. Sadly that only works with specially ordering trucks in my experience

That’s for sure. I have bred the same mare to the same homozygous dark stallion three times. The first time I got black with four whites, the second time I got very dark with four whites and a blaze, and the third time I got brown with no white. Go figure.

And they were lovely, and I was very relieved that the third one turned out the way it did! If she’d had another chromed up dark colt I was going to want it very very badly and I need a baby like I need a hole in my head…but that cross has turned out so consistently well….

Why thank you, Quelah.

Tatendrang is also homozygous for black, and throws lovely lovely babies!!

I just happened to see this stallion recently; this is an amazing young stallion. When I stallion shop I always think, “do I want to ride that horse”, this horse, very much so.

My Sir Oldenburg mare is the most perfect FEI mare. I too would use him again. Her mother was a chestnut Don Primero /Weltmeyer mare with a lot of black ancestry.
