We built our own homemade horse jumps :)

Wow! Those are AWESOME!

I seriously had to do a double take, because it was all so cute and pretty, I thought they were Breyer size!!! lol

Even the Boxer is deceiving because the picture is so crystal clear, and he’s posing so perfectly, he looks like a figurine!!!

Very cool!!!

It is a lot of fun making jumps as a family project. We did it a few years ago when the kids were still home & heavy into the jumping/showing. The jumps are still in good shape today (7 years down the road.) Like you we made various striped poles and several panels. Using 8 foot long poles made them easier/lighter to move & boy did the 10 ft wide jumps at the shows seem easier for the kids & pony too.

If you’re creative you can paint different designs on each side of the panel (example: one of ours is solid white on one side and black & white piano keyboard on the other.) Set up right (such as a vertical) you get more “jumps” to use in a small space when you can come from either side. Everything was painted so one side could be more “hunter/natural” the other side colorful for jumper look. Lots of bang for the buck

We challenged ourselves to recycle and “re-purposed” some treated lumber and deck boards the neighbors were just going to burn when they were remodeling. Made two 4 ft wide sections of a nice natural coop, a nice brush box frame, and most of the jump standards out of that for free! We used up a bunch of leftover paint from other projects and also got some cheap at Home Depot. (They seem to have an ongoing supply of mis-mixed cast offs if you ask.)

We also made six 4 ft wide stackable boxes to use 2 side by side for an 8 ft wide jump; easy to vary heights by adding another layer. One side was sponge painted to be a brick wall and the other had 2 blue boxes with stars and the others red and white stripe to assemble 3 high by 2 wide into an American flag. Drilled holes in the tops and they could be used many ways with or without flowers in the tops.

A few landscape timers with feet attached and holes drilled for flowers made it easy to dress up and change looks with $$$$ store flowers or use as natural ground lines. Lots of other decor (mini Christmas tree “brush”, fall leaves garland, pumpkins, etc) picked up on seasonal clearance was dirt cheap at Michaels/Joann’s. It was so fun getting creative and when I figured it out we had a full course of 10 jumps for about $300.

Anybody could do this with a few basic power tools, paint, and a creative spirit over a week end or two.
Great ideas!! thanks for sharing. It was a lot of fun working with the family and we got them all set up this afternoon. My daughter is so excited to try them out. I think we will build some of the 4 foot boxes next. Love the American flag idea

Awwww. Thank you. She sold as a weanling and when her “mom” found out she was pregnant I had the opportunity to buy her back. We have let her hang out and occasionally come in to do some work. I just got to back her for the first time the other day and she was such a doll and never put a foot out of place. We will put a few miles on her and then look for the perfect show home for her

Alliecat can you share with us what materials we’d need to do jumps like this? My husband has been biting at the bit to do this but we just don’t know what to buy in order to do so!
What is a rough estimate of cost, if you don’t mind saying??
Does your husband have a brother?

Cheap and Easy Home Made Horse Jumps

Check out http://homemadehorsejumps.weebly.com/

There are lots of ideas and photos of jumps you can make for cheap, and a cool idea for making your own jump cups. Even a nice tall mounting block you can build.

Liger, very nice. The painting is awesome. I’m not a fan of the pallet coops, though, as I can see a foot getting caught and the coop being dragged or a bad leg injury. I would add a few slats to make it safer.

alliecat, they’re fabulous!
I have to say though, I don’t think your daughter’s secret obsession is still secret (lol)!
Thanks for listing the materials you used - very helpful.
Next I’d love to see a picture of your daughter & pony (all dressed up to match) going over the jump that has her name painted on it. Wouldn’t that be fun!

These are adorable! Great job! Were the landscape timbers square originally? And, if so, how did you get them so round?

Liger, thanks for sharing. Great paint job on that stone wall!

They look amazing.

So cute! LOL Love the jumps!

Just wanted to say that your homemade jump cups are brilliant yet simple and CHEAP! I made some out of wood a few years ago, but they were much more complex, but still cheap. I know what I will be doing when I actually have room someday to set up my jumps and need more cups!

These jumps are awesome! Good job!
