We did it! First show, and we tried western!

Well, we did it. This past weekend I took my three year old filly to her very first show, and we gave western a shot. It was SO much fun! First time away from home, and nothing at all bothered her. I was so proud of her.

We tried out showmanship, walk/jog pleasure, and walk/jog horsemanship (equitation) and she was such a good girl! We only really started the western thing a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve had so much fun, I think we will definitely keep it up.

We came home with a 3rd in showmanship and two 2nds in pleasure and horsemanship. Seriously, if anyone is thinking about it, give it a try!

The end result:

Wonderful, a horse and rider can’t ever know enough.
Cross training is so good for all, keeps everyone fresh.

Love the pictures, the last one is so colorful!

Preparing and howing like that is much fun.

Thank you for showing us what that is all about.

Congrats! She is so cute! I think there are many more ribbons in your future.

She is super cute! Nice job!

Nice lookin’ horse!! Good job.

Thanks guys! I’m just completely blown away by the mind on this horse. I’ve never, ever had a baby just hop in the trailer, attack her magic bag o’food with gusto, get off, see her very first show grounds (there were TWO shows going on, so it was a madhouse) and be exactly the horse they were at home.

Nothing bothered her. I tried longing her first, but when I realized I was expanding more energy than she was… I shrugged and got on.

We did develop a slight crush on a couple of the miniature horses though. I think she thinks they’re dog-horse hybrids, and she loves dogs… so a dog-horse… well, now that’s right up her alley!

and for fun, my favorite lead line entry. Sadly, he was not allowed in due to lack of helmet. Which is sad, because he and his person are wearing matchy clothes.
