If she’s down all the time, that’s bad, but if she spends some time off her feet, that can be helpful in recovery.
I’m sure you’re savvy enough to tell the difference, though.
Sending prayers.
Best wishes to you and your mare.
Jingling!
Sending more Jingles your way.
Thinking about you and your mare today
Just as an update, she actually penetrated on the left. I nearly put her down but then found the ECIR group. I’ve been doing my own trims for years now. I initially was not comfortable trying to do the proper trim myself but couldn’t find anyone to come to me that would do it. I figured I had nothing to lose.
She is recovering. It’s slow and the hole has not closed up yet but I fully expect it to. I have not taken her back to the vet for x-rays yet. I had planned to 2 weeks ago and a hurricane hit. Now I’m catching up on work along with covering for a co-worker that was out on vacation so haven’t had time.
So far no signs of founder in the right but without x-rays, no way to know for sure. I do try to keep the hoof trimmed to help keep that from happening plus she is in support boots.
My vet does not know she penetrated. I’m pretty sure he was going to push for euth.
I’m hoping to show him once she has recovered that founder this bad does not have to be a death sentence.
So sorry you and your mare are fighting this battle, but I’m glad to hear that you’ve found the ECIR group and are progressing in a positive direction! Jingling hard for you and your girl.
