First time breeder here, so I am not too sure what the average milestones are.
I have a hanoverian colt, now almost 7 months to the day. He stands at a hair over 14h at the withers and 14.2h at the rump. From what i have read, they generally slow in height growth from 6-8 months and start to fill out. Is that true?
how tall are your weanlings?
My 6 and 5 month weanlings are 13.1 and 13.2, respectively (weaning this week, so really almost weanlings)
My 6 month old pony filly is 11.3

Oh goodness I wish I hadn’t read this… My 6 month old TBX filly is 12.1 and has been for the past two months… Now her butt, that’s a whole 'nother story.
My 6 1/2 month old weanling by Sir Gregory is 13.2hh. Mama, by Balta’Czar, is 15.2hh.
Will remeasure this weekend but 6month old colt is just over 15h and my 4month old filly is about 13.2h!
My 6 month old German riding pony colt is 13h. Sire and dam are 14.2.
This little doll is being weaned this weekend, and he’s 14.1HH

I have a seven month Escudo colt who is measuring 14.2 (about an inch shorter than my yearling)- now of course the entire reason we bred to Escudo was to reduce height as he has a large two year old sister as well- go figure! His sister did slow down her two year old year, so should finish smaller than we originally thought. Hopefully he will do the same. My 4 month old Apiro is also rather large, haven’t measured him but eyeball guestimate is 13h and growing fast.
This is my colt last month. I weaned him right after this picture was taken. Not sure how big he is, but he looked like a giant at his inspection.
He is already filled out so hopefully he doesn’t get any fatter!
His babysitter Otis is my old retired hunter and he is always sneaking his grain, so I know he isn’t eating too much food! :eek:
His full brother is 4 and a tad over 16.1 but all legs, I expect him to finish 16.2, but this guy is already a lot bigger at 7 months so I am thinking 17 hands like daddy!
My colt is 2 weeks shy of 9 months old and he is currently standing 13.2 at the shoulder and 14.2 at the butt…the string test (where you measure from the center of the knee to the coronet and the number of inches is the estimated height) has him reaching literally like a centimeter shy of 16H. A friend of mine has a 3 year old filly that was a tad shorter than my colt is now at this age and she is now 15.2H as her string test said she would be.

My TB filly is 8 months old and 14.1 at the wither and somewhere around 14.3 at the rump. Is this normal? She has grown about a inch since I got her at 6 months and TBH, is guite the ugly duckling right now. No neck, frumpy midsection, all legs. Glad it’s blanket season cause her face is sure cute!
ETA: You can string test now? I thought you had to wait til a year… I will be doing it tonight because I am DYING to know how big she will be. Any guesses??
My 5 month old Formula One foal (out of a TB mare) is almost 14 hands…she’s a big girl!!! 
Our weanling is 13.1 at 6 months. Mom is 14.2. Dad is 16.2 (1/2).

My filly though not a sport horse but a TWH is 14’1 at 5 months and wearing a 57" blanket. Sire is 15’ dam is 16’1

too early to tell…they vary widely in size at this age. Not sure where you read they slow their growth after 6 to 8 mos as they grow an average of 8 inches from their yearling height (yearling being 12 months old). I think the only thing you can safely say is that he will be over 16H. Beyond that…can’t tell until he is at least 12 months old. String tests are not valid under 12 months old. String test methods aside…for full size horses (not ponies) the milestones are add 8 inches to the 12 month height and 4 inches to the 24 month height.

Seriously? My ASB/Percheron colt is going to be 17hds then! :eek:Ooof!
The TB colt I just purchased is 14.1 at 8 mos. Mom is 16hds, Dad is 16.3. I’m expecting 16.2 or 3.
