Weaver Western Saddles?

Just wanted to get some opinions…I won one on E bay, brand new, has the leather pieces (brown, NOT turquoise!) added to cantle and such.

Am I now nominated for the tacky trail riders or does my Abetta saddle I bought for $50 that was run over by a car (I like to think of it as a scratch and dent model) qualify me? It is still perfectly functional btw, gotta love those Abettas!

Seriously, would like to see if other folks have owned a Weaver saddle and what they think…be kind if possible, I haven"t gotten the thing yet and I don"t want my bubble burst TOO soon!

Dunno how they ride but the one’s I’ve fondled in TSC looked waaaay too vinyl-y even for me, and I love abettas and english wintecs.

Even the dreaded western wintec cinder-block seat saddles LOOK (and smell) better than the Weavers.

You would definitely get more tacky points for the turquoise doo-dads. Perhaps if you wore rubber english boots with the Weaver. With Western spurs. That would work.

Does it fit you and your horse? If so, who cares! My BIL has a saddle that’s older than dirt and held together with electrical tape. Now that’s tacky!

I agree with jeano, you can always add tacky (the neon turquoise saddle pad, nylon bridle and breast plate).

Haven’t received it yet so not sure if it fits. LOOKS like it will…ah those impulse E bay buys, huh??! Vinyl-y, hmmm, maybe I will be lucky and it will squeak too!

I think I will go with bright orange for my tacky ensemble if it works out. Turquoise on a sorrel looks hideous…even “I” won’t cross that line!

Anyone else please feel free to chime in about Weaver saddles

Well, since you’re light on responses, I’ll throw out there that the one outrider at our track has a black weaver saddle for his horses that has been through heck and back. Morning after morning of rainy, snowy, sleety miserable weather all spring and winter then baked all summers and that thing kept going and was on their barnful of horses. I guess its kind of like a Timex, took a licking and kept on ticking. I think he finally upgraded this year, but that was after years in the other one and it was starting to look really rough after ponying rogues.

My daughter went thru a western phase with her pony a few years back and Santa brought her the pink trimmed one ( now that is tacky ) It fits our AQHA, the paint boarder and the now loaned out Welsh pony rather well. As my little girl was already 4’10" by 9 yo and is already over 5’3" at 11, I bought the 16 inch model, guessng her pink phase might hold out longer than the western ( it did). All of our guests who trail ride with us and want to “Go Western” ride it and it is easy to clean, adjust and we can always find them in the woods by the flourescent pink flashing as the horses bolt!!! ( jk )

Sure appreciate the positive responses! Thank you!

I’ve never had a Weaver saddle, but I do have several Western basketweave stamped headstalls/reins made by Weaver Leather. They are, oh, at least 15 years old in some cases. When I first got them, they seemed super stiff, and shiny, and I thought they’d never drape well, or feel good in the hand.

Now that they are broken in, they are my favorites. Don’t know if they use the same quality leather today, but those things have taken a licking, and kept on ticking!!

Alas, the Weaver didn’t fit well on tubby mare. Probably work ok on Tb but he has saddles of his own. I wound up taking it to a consignment shop and trading for a trusted Abetta (used but decent)
The Weaver was Very Pretty tho! Make someone a nice Present

This is slightly OT but I just bought a western saddle from www.saddleonline.com and i’m very pleased with it. I bought it as a cheap saddle for trail rides & starting horses, without having to suffer a huge loss if it gets totally trashed. It was here in Canada within 2 weeks and it was a flat shipping rate of $50. After exchange rates and shipping I paid about $450. I do, however, suggest getting a lot of oil.

I have wintec’s, abetta’s and a weaver I use to pony. The wintecs gave up early, the abetta is going strong and I love my weaver. !
To be honest, it did take a few hours to break in …then, it was the MOST comfortable saddle Ive ever ridden in . I never thought anything could be better than my hunting stubben but this Weaver has stolen my heart.
It fits all my horses, sure, some different padding on each but it seems to mold to their form.

And.......its so light! weatherproof... I cant say enough, they are on sale right now for $200/dont let the low price fool you , they are great.

My experience with low budget Trail Saddle with www.saddleonlineshop.com was good .
