Week 2 weather outlook...what to pack.

I have been watching the games online and on NBC. I have also been watching the weather. It looked like the weather channels are just pulling forecasts out of a hat. I plan on being up there from Thursday thru Sunday (driving portion). What has the weather been like? I am in FLA. so I know that I will be cooler than here, and I am driving and have space in my trunk, but I dont want to being ton of sweaters if I am not going to wear them.
Sure light jackets, blah blah blah, but what is the feel in the air? chilly? still a bit humid? Is there a breeze? I have never been to KY and do not know what to expect with the mountain air.

Thanks !

TIA!

So the weather forecasts have not been super accurate. Saturday they said high 70, 30% chance of rain, but it ended up being quite a bit warmer and no rain until around 5pm.

Bring a backpack, bring layers. The weather is changing a lot. If the wind comes up to 5-10 mph it also changes the feel quite significantly. I’d suggest packing lightweight gloves (riding gloves work well, or buy some).

Where you will be is a factor as well. If you are in the main stands, under the roof, it can be fairly chilly even while people out in the sun are toasty.

I am also flying in Thurs. night for the driving, I too was watching to to see what everyone was wearing. I am planning on doing the jeans, long sleeve shirt or t-shirt and carrying a fleece and a windbreaker. It looked like it could be quite windy and I don’t was to be too frozen to enjoy the marathon:yes: I’ve been to Kentucky before but is was about 15 yrs. ago so my memories of the weather are a little foggy !

I had a polar fleece, a hat, my long gore-tex jacket, and gloves, and I was very happy. The gore-tex stayed in the hotel until Sunday, when I was quite glad to have it.

If you don’t like the weather now, just wait a few minutes
Mountain air? LOL! The elevation at KHP is less than 1000’

Temperatures vary from above average to below average, but on average they are average.

They say if you don’t like the weather in Kentucky, wait an hour. The weather is very unpredictable, especially this time of year. Plan for strong breezes and layer, layer, layer. Right now the forecast for Thursday through Sunday is highs around 75, lows around 50 and sunny. But, things could change in a heartbeat.

Do bring something waterproof.

LMAO ! I know…I am in FLORIDA LOL

Yep, layers. Yesterday was a cutting wind from the north and my DH and I spent the better part of the day at home and in town hiding behind buildings to get out of it. Today much nicer and the weather is supposed to continue to trend nicer toward the end of the week.
If it happens that they are wrong ahem, pack a hoodie if you have one or be prepared to buy a hoodie or the ear band earmuffs, keeping that cold wind off your ears is a big relief.

thanks guys!! I am on the right path with layers, sweaters, my “little” collection of pashmina scarves and jeans. I will had some kind of head gear to my bag and I should be done!

I was happy to have fleece gloves and smartwool socks

Funny you should ask… My daughter is there and just texted me that it is cold. They had to go buy more gloves. Luckily, she did pack warm clothes. Oh, and we’re from Florida too. I would probably love it… since I tend to have my own personal summers going on.

Of course you’re remembering comfy shoes and socks!

Bring a backpack, bring layers. .
Yes, this. The weather really varied, from short sleeves last Friday, all day to a darn cold 40 degrees Sunday morning, with layers, fleece, scarves and a wool hat for the jog outs.

I brought a laptop and checked the hourly weather report online each morning and stuffed my backpack accordingly.

Of course, this all just means you are just forced to purchase some cool new piece of warm gear! Oh darn!
