Thought I’d start a thread for the Nations Cup. Not sure I’ll be able to stream it this afternoon, but I am excited for the US team. All horses seemed to go well this week leading up to it. Karl has his mare back in the hackamore and they look like they’ve done a lot of figuring eachother out since the PanAms. I also haven’t been following SJ as much since I got out of it, but I didn’t realise Zayna was 18 now! I feel like I was just watching her ride ponies at PF. What a competitor she is!
Thanks for the reminder! Just in time. While we definitely have a strong Team USA in the ring, I’m voting Team Ireland for the win.
Unfortunate 4 for Laura. Bisquetta is a firecracker!
Doesn’t look like the hackamore was quite doing the trick for Karl today unfortunately. They’re such a brilliant pair when they’re on it, and unravel so quickly when they aren’t.
Gorgeous clear for McClain! I really like this Ilex horse. I wonder if he’s thinking of it for Paris.
I just tuned in and WOW Mclain’s (newer?) mount Ilex!
Did anyone just hear Ashlee Bond say she gave her horse half an energy boost between rounds?
I did - not sure if I would say that on a live stream, personally.
I haven’t got to watch any of the stream or replays, but it definitely seems like a tough course from the scores.
Just watched the second round. I know she had two 8 fault rounds, but watching Zayna excites me for the future. She made the first 9 jumps of a very tough track look easy.
I wish they would put Lillie in, I think she could be for the future.
There was mention of another Nation’s Cup before WEF is over so maybe she’ll be on that team?
There is also the Jumping World Cup and League of Nations coming up in Ocala this month, and she is already in Ocala… so hopefully we will see her there. Very excited for her new horse!
No Lillie on the League of Nations team for Ocala.
Looks like Kent, Laura, McLain, and Aaron Vale will be our team for Ocala.
I’m sure Lillie will make an appearance at Live Oak and I hope it’s strong.
I totally forgot about the format change in 2020 and its carry over to this year. So we really already have our obvious team in McLain, Kent, and Laura. IMO, everyone else is just vying for a traveling reserve spot.
I thought a young rider had to be on the team.
https://www.chronofhorse.com/article/fei-announces-inaugural-longines-league-of-nations-locations/
From the article: The 10 top-ranked nations may compete in the League of Nations, plus the host nation if not already qualified. The nations are ranked based off each national federation’s top six athletes on the Longines Rankings, at least one of whom must be a U25 rider.
It sounds to me like the U25 rider counts for the ranking of the nations. Not necessarily that the U25 rider has to be on a team.
I don’t know which of the four on the US team for Ocala could even pretend to be anywhere near 25 at this point. Lol.
I have to say I’m just not keen at all on this new concept where there is a phase with only three horses and no drop score. Just because it means somebody will be a lot less inclined to pull up, even if they should for the sake of their horse’s welfare.
