WEG Handicap parking

Searched and found little. Checked WEG site and still not sure…
i recently broke my leg and have a cast. I am supposed to get it off the day before I leave for WEG. I know my weak leg will not be up to walking 6 days at WEG so I am trying to figure out if I can bring a medical scooter and get a temp handicap sticker for my car.

So far I think my only parking option at the park is the $20 per day first come first serve lot. Not paying for the $100 lot.

I am rv camping with a friend south of town so we have to drive a car at least into lex to catch a bus.

Any options I am missing? Can I lug a scooter onto the bus?

WEG parking for Handicap is in the general lot. There will be transport from your car to the front gate.

I am handicapped and I am bringing my own mobility scooter with me from FL. It breaks down into 5 pieces and assembles in less than a few minutes. There are supposed to be handicap shuttles available to transport people from the parking lots and inside the park to transport handicapped people from venue to venue. I know that they are able to load an occupied wheelchair, but I don’t know about scooters. If you had someone to help you, you could have them put the pieces of your scooter on and off the shuttle, and it could quickly be assembled. There is also supposed to be a facility in the park to help with any mechanical problems for mobility vehicles. Your doctor will give you an RX for a temporary handicap placard for your car. I was nervous about the hike from the parking lot on the adjacent farm. There are supposed to be shuttles from there, but I was uneasy about it. I went ahead and bought the $100/day parking pass and it is supposed to have handicap parking spaces. I would be so disappointed after all the expense and anticipation of the WEG to end up stuck in the mud in the parking lot miles from the entrance.

I saw the parking map you are as close as you can be without being a sponsor etc. I don’t have the map handy otherwise I would have given you more info.

well, I just can’t justify the $100 pr day as we will be there for 6 days. But what I can’t figure out is the general parking. It seems to be first come first serve, so I drive all the way to the park to find that the lot is full. then I have to turn around and drive back into town to park the car and drag the scooter onto a public bus shuttle?

It is first come first serve in the lots. Then they will head to overflow (another farm) and lastly the over overflow parking is at Coldstream with shuttles. There are 11,000 parking spots per day in general parking…its a toss up if they fill every day.

The parking director has been MANDATED by the state NOT to back ANY traffic onto the highway, that determines how the parking works.

So, handicapped parking costs $100/day? On top of having mobility issues, one has to pay out the nose for having a disability and having the necessity to park closer in the handicapped lot?

I’m sorry if I didn’t make it clear in my post. I was nervous about the parking on the adjacent farm and fearful that the shuttles wouldn’t be able to take my mobility scooter, and knew that I couldn’t walk for a mile to the entrance, and my scooter might not be able to handle the uneven ground of a parking lot in a pasture. I chose to buy the expensive parking so I wouldn’t be worried. In fact, since I bought the parking pass, it has been announced that there will be many more shuttles than originally planned. Local churches have volunteered their shuttles. I’m so sorry for the misunderstanding. We are all going to have a great time. I can hardly wait.

I just went back to research the curent parking info and found this:

ADA Parking
All Parking areas will have designated ADA parking locations. Additionally all parking areas will have mobility shuttles to assist anyone who requires mobility assistance.

So, it seems that wherever you park, cheap parking or expensive parking, there will be handicapped spaces in all those options.

I also read somewhere else that there will be an ADA Hospitality Center where one can pick up a wristband that will allow access to the shuttles within the park for those with mobility issues.

Please dont quote me, but I believe the way it is set up is that you will need to park at Spy Coast ($20 lot) and they will be transporting those with handicap tags/plates using the KHP golf carts. So you wont need to take the general shuttle. Again this could have all changed so I would call WEG,

I’m not sure about the legality but they are providing handicap parking (with special shuttles) elsewhere so I am pretty sure they can charge for “prime” parking.

Of course, I have to quote you here for the purposes of responding to your post!!!
But, I am hoping that they are not planning on putting ANY handicapped parking in any pasture lot…uneven ground is obviously not conducive to those with a handicap or mobility issues…so not sure how they will be working that out if they are planning to use Spy Coast’s pastures.
