My husband (who works at one of the horse associations at the KHP) received a call from Comfort Inn and Suites today. Apparently, they are dropping their prices (a lot) because they have not filled up like they thought that they would. So if anyone is still looking for a room, you may want to give them a call.
I just now went on their website for dates during the last week, and they had no availability.

They wouldnât show availability if they had contracted to use Shortâs as their agent.
I called for 9/28 - one night and they quoted $175 for Queen and $195 for King. It matched their web site rate - they sounded pretty keen to book a room.
Yay! Thank you! I just booked a room for oct 1st and 2nd in Lexington for 148 including taxes. That is less than the room I had initially booked 45 mins away. It did say it was full online, I had to call them. Thank-you!!

Candlewood Suites???
I just went on tripadvisor.com and the Candlewood Suites have rooms for $60. per night. Has anyone stayed there? Is it a horrible part of town? One review out of 12 or 15 said bedbugs with a clear reply on that review from management saying they had sent in Ecolabs to check it out, found nothing.
I am wondering, since this is a huge savings from my 200+/night room.
Anyone know more about this location?

Is it the one in Georgetown? I donât know the hotel, but Georgetown is very nice, not hostile or a horrible part of town by any means.
IMHO, you will not be spending much time in the hotel room, no? Iâd rather spend the extra $100+ on horsey stuff at the Park. You can pull the sheets back and look for bed bugs. Plus BB arenât limited to sleezy hotels, at least around here anyway, thereâre everywhere. Youâd be just as likely to find them in the $200/night hotel as the rental by the hour (though you may get more then just bed bugs from the latter).

I know what you are saying about the bug thing. I stay in so many places while competing, that it is likely my exposure is everywhere. It looked from the review that it was one disgruntled review out of 14.

I called Candlewood suites and they donât have any availablity, at least not the guy I talked to said they didnât. All the other rates were around $130+ and up. Iâm going to keep trying. If anyone knows of other hotels, post it here.

Checked my reservation at Candlewood this morning to be sure that we were confirmed, we were, and were told that there might be a smoking room or two left, but the comment was âoff the cuffâ rather than an actual check. We are looking at the entire week from opening ceremonies to GPFS.
We paid $70 for a double and $60 for a king. It is supposed to be a âsuiteâ, not daily maid service. I think that is fine for us, and we may see about a shuttle or taxi for the 6 miles if that is possible rather than the parking deal.
Anyone know if there is a spot for âdrop offâ spectators?

Yes there is a drop off location but only taxiâs and limos are allowed to drop of patrons there.

When I started trying to book hotel rooms for self & friends last January, through the official WEG lodging web site (trying to be supportive and all!)- EVERYTHING in Lexington showed as booked except for a few in the $200+ per night range. One had the option of âwaitlistingâ for a hotel room closer, or booking a âsure thingâ further away- but they were all pretty pricey for what they were! And the kicker was, you couldnât do both- either waitlist or reserve but only one!
Along about May or June, I finally booked a hotel 30 minutes away (I think- Richmond KY) through Expedia. At the time it was way cheaper than equivalents on the WEG site.
So, guess I need to ponder whether to stay with the relatively reasonable price 30 minutes away, or bail out a cheapie in Lexington who falsely advertised âall booked upâ months ago!

Several months ago all I could find was the Days Inn in Frankfurt, but recently Iâve been checking back on the websites, and now I have the Days Inn only about 7 miles from the Horse Park for just about the same price. 
So keep looking.
I just booked a reward stay through Hilton Honorâs for a 429sq ft suite for 60,000. Judging by the reward points, iâd say the rooms at the Hilton only 21 minutes away must still be fairly reasonable.

Well, ya know, when you are planning a major trip with three other people, all coming from different parts of the country, Iâm one of those who likes to nail things down early. I wanted to nail down the hotel before going to the expense of purchasing tickets. Of course the ticket prices seem to be dropping like a rock too. But what the heck, Iâm only going to do WEG once. Though I have to say, having done the '96 Atlantic Olympics and the 2002 âhomeâ winter Olympics, this WEG process has not inspired confidence.
I always get my COTH a couple of weeks late, so this is probably old news, but I see that by now (two weeks before start??!?) They have sold HALF of the available tickets. OMG!!! And Alltech is having to rush in and pony up more money so they donât have to cut out a lot of things they planned for the WEG.
Excuse my smirk. Perhaps if theyâd priced things more reasonably, they might have sold ALL of the tickets. Perhaps if theyâd done something to prevent hotels from price gouging, they might have sold ALL the tickets.
It is sad to think that I did two weeks in England and the last long-format Badminton event for less than it would cost me to go to see a few days of the WEG. I almost feel like saying I hope itâs a colossal failure financially (Yes, I know that means they might never hold them in the US again), but since itâs obviously CHEAPER to go to Europe to see the games than to see them here in the good old âAnything for a Buckâ USofA, it would be no real loss.
Good timing that the new âWall Streetâ movie has just been released. Obviously, in the minds of the US WEG organizers and the hotel industry in the Lexington area, greed is good.
The ones who showed all full up for direct booking or exorbitant rates were hooked up with Shortâs, the âofficialâ agency for the Games. The hotel had contracted with Shortâs for all their rooms and were waiting for Shortâs to sell them at the rates agreed to with Shortâs.
So if you are gonna hate on anyone in the housing fiasco, hate on Shortâs.

Although I think there were other organizational glitches along the way too. Some of us signed up years ago indicating interest in housing (hotels)- but never got the promised notifications. Just the monthly newsletter that eventually said âgo to the housing link.â
