I know for XC the tie breaker is closest to optimum time…what about for SJ? I’m just looking at 3rd v 4th … Tim Price v Ros Canter both on 26.2
Tim wasone second fasterthat time and Ra was6 seconds faster, so the closest to time…
why put blankets on horses inthis heat?
Tim is a master when it comes to the clock…
Very impressive showing by New Zealand, the Prices stepped up to the plate as usual, and earned that podium spot! Congrats to all the teams, I’m particularly impressed with how well the Japanese are coming along, the riding (and horses) have improved tremendously.
I’m not able to watch the live feed, but…
If an awards ceremony, it’s traditional I think, and the ceremony isn’t long.
If blankets in general (like after a stadium round), they could be cooling blankets.
On other things: thrilled for Team USA, and I love that the powers that be are starting to dig into the lengthy list of very talented younger riders.
And gutted for Team Canada, but hopeful for them for the Pan-Ams.
Yes, I had heard that they work with William Fox-Pitt - it definitely shows
As much as I love Thomas, I think his disdain for the poles will probably keep him off further teams. He is a bit like Abraxas, great in the first two phases, but no respect for the painted poles.
I think the fact he will be 17 by the next Olympics is more likely to be what keeps him off future teams. Not that 17 is old, but he’s in a program where there are always promising horses coming up the pipeline.
He has done a lot for the USA over the past 4 years: 2 WEGs, 1 Olympics, Pan Am gold when we needed it most, highest finish for USA at Kentucky in how many years?
What an incredible finish!!! So thrilled for Yas! Even more thrilled to TEAM USA ! First WEG Team medal since 2002! Last major team championship medal was bronze at 2004 Athens Olympics (where Thomas’ sire Windfall was on the team) if you don’t count PanAms. Congrats to everyone involved in this incredible victory!!!
This is hard for me to wrap my head around (in a good way):
Two USA-bred horses on the team, one direct progeny of our last big team success and one spunky Anglo-Arab who in another universe would never be on an international eventing team. Pretty crazy when you think about it, especially considering how much eventing has shifted to favor dressage and show jumping since our last team podium appearance.
He has also had a “major” flub in all his team appearances. Had a refusal at Tryon weg, disappointing dressage test in Tokyo, and now disappointing showjumping here.
And I think highest finish at ky was with On Cue, not Thomas, wasn’t it?
No, it was Thomas at KY who finished 2nd in 2019. On Cue won Maryland.
So I unbelievably happy for the Americans. I’m sick of ppl saying Bug was only chosen because of Mrs Mars. They clearly didn’t realize he has a streak of 17 clear XCs and can do a fab dressage.
I’m so so happy for you guys! I’m proud of Canada for finishing a team too! Just a few years ago we didn’t even have the riders to send.
Unbelievable performance by Yaz and my heart breaks for MJ and Ollie T.
And agree - The Prices are just LEGEND
He also had rails in Tokyo I think?
Wow, what a finish! I’m catching up on articles and photos from WEG. Does anyone know why, when EN and others mention the names of owners, Jacqueline Mars gets an “Ms” before her name while others get nothing? I know she is a huge supporter of eventing … just curious about this when she is referred to by certain equine media publications.
Go USA!
For people discussing the terrain, don’t forget that cameras, particularly with long lenses, flatten things. Hills vanish, slopes level out, distances shorten. I’ve watched on TV places where I’ve actually walked the course and it certainly looks easier on TV!
We need to take some SJ lessons from McLain Ward- learn how to get our hands up and support the horse to get them balanced on their hind ends and not drop them and expect the rails to stay up!
Feeling all verklempt. It was worth it to stay off social media and watch the replays without spoilers. The show jumping final was nerve wracking!
Thrilled with the USA’s finish! Less than a single penalty point difference between team Silver, Bronze, and off the podium. So many what-ifs!
And to finish so strongly as a team - all riders clear cross country, all in the top 20 at the end. Just wow. A lot of good decisions had to be made to get us to that point.
Sad for Michi - but what a sportsman and horseman…
Will is redeemed in my eyes for past disappointments, and Off the Record is just 13 - as is Leamore Master Plan. Lexus and Bug are 15. Agree that Thomas is likely done as a team horse at the highest level - but what a way to go out.
Paris here we come!
