Weight right on the line between two Frontline treatment options?

Our puppy has been growing and she’s just about at 45 lbs right now. Previously, we were buying the Frontline treatment for dogs 35-44lbs. The next step up is 45-88lbs.

She is 12 months old and has gained 13lbs since we got her at 6 months. I don’t foresee her adding more than a few more pounds, to get up to 50lbs maximum.

Should I go with the lower weight dosage or the higher weight dosage when she’s riiiiight on that line?

Good question. I thought that the only difference between the sizes was amount of liquid in the applicator, but I’m not sure.

If that is the case I’d decide based on how hairy your dog is and what your tick risk is – on thick coats, I always feel that there is a loss of product (e.g. I know I can never get a true parting of the hair on my cats like I can on the dogs - and product is on their fur, not on their skin).

I think that I actually compared sizes once and the actual ingredients were exactly the same, only the volume in the applicator was difference. If so, I’d go with the higher dose and be willing to waste some of it (e.g. leave some in the applicator and throw it away), especially if you had a coated breed and a lot of ticks. Under dosing them would be worse where I live.

Agreed if the dosage is linear, which I think it is in frontline (meaning just an increased volume, not concentration), I’d buy the larger one and not use the entire vial. Assuming she’s still growing, you’ll need that larger dose next month anyway

What they said^^

A friend accidentally grabbed the wrong size for her dog, and even though I have larger dogs, it was still too much for a single dose on just one of them, so I split the dosage up between 2 of them. It worked great.

Frontline is about the only flea/tick product on the market where you can put the 130lb dog size on a kitten and it will be fine. (Aside from being practically drowned)

Go with the larger size.

Excellent, thank you all so much! I suspected I would be ok to go with the bigger size but before committing to the purchase I wanted to be sure, since money is tight this month.

I certainly hope she doesn’t get much larger than 50lbs, she’s actually bulked up a bit more than we thought she would.

Here’s some pics from the last 2 months if anyone is curious: http://beljoeor.blogspot.com/2014/10/wordless-wednesday-happy-birthday-puppy.html
