Weird Muscles You Got From Riding (Share Everyone!)

I was wondering if anyone has any weird muscles that you have obtained from riding? My friend and I were talking about it and thought it was weird that we get these muscles that only riding can give us. What are some of yours!

I don’t think these are specific to riding, but certainly developed by riding…the muscles in my calfs are super defined as is the muscle just over the knee (mind you, I used to do a lot of weight lifting and leg pressed 545pds lol!)

one riding specific muscle though is in my hand, running straight down from my pinky to my wrist from gripping the rein I guess.

Point toes towards knees, observe front of shins. Mine are huge

Haha mine too! Tibialis major? I think that’s the muscle. My BF was a Kinesiology major (the study of muscle movement) and he says us riding folks have overdeveloped calves and tibialis muscles and I should be careful of compartment syndrome. Anyone have any experience with that?

I was complaining about needing wider calf boots to my coworkers. One guy didn’t believe I have big calves so I pulled up my pants and got the ‘oh my god, those are big!’…is that a compliment? hmm…well, my boyfriend doesn’t mind how much riding keeps me in shape and everything, so it is all good.

I looked up compartment syndrome and do not know anyone that has that issue. It does say it is more prevalent in athletes, but I have never known it having been experienced.

I have always had well defined calves. BK (before kids), I wore significant heels at work and looked good  But I needed wide calf boots.
These days I don’t wear heels anymore. I run 3-4 miles 3x+ a week and I wear border line normal calf width boots.

But the most beneficial muscle development from riding might not be externally observable

Except by a midwife…

None really- I think I have a pretty well toned body for my age- and even my early twen daughters are jealous of the lack of cellulite on my thighs. I have a tight core- for my age and I think other than swimming- riding will give you the most balanced body possible- as long as you ride with feel and without the premise of using ‘strength’. If you do so- you will develop sore areas and muscles that are abnormally bigger than the rest of your body.

Good Riding is also really great cardio workout!! so- prepare to sweat in a good way…;)!

My legs tend towards the muscular anyway (finding tall boots off the shelf to fit is wicked hard/borderline impossible), so I totally have those shin muscles. Let’s see what else…all the muscles along my spine…lower abdominals, right below the belly button…if I squeeze my thighs together my upper thighs and knees touch before the middle section. There’s a good one–all the muscles in my inner thigh that help you post and apparently don’t do anything else because they’re only sore after riding. I’ve put myself in show bootcamp for the summer; thus, all of these muscles are super sore right now.

I have the upper body of a construction worker from cleaning the barn and grooming so much. I also have a funny little muscle on the inside of my thigh, that makes the inseam of my jeans fray.

The ones down the back of the thigh.

The ones in my rear end are much enhanced by riding, and I don’t really ride that much… 3 maybe 4 hours per week, with a lot of walking. Nonetheless, my husband’s appreciative!

it’s made my boobs get gigantic.

I hardly think so. Breasts are made of fat and mammary glands, not muscle. Fat cells shrink with exercise, not get larger.

If your girls have gotten larger, it’s certainly not from exercise. Except for perhaps the ones where cupcakes are involved.

Well, I WISH riding had made my boobs gigantic…no luck there.
I do notice the core muscle strength. And the previously-nonexistent muscle on the inside of the thigh at the very top…the ones that hold you in the saddle when you’re NOT clamping with the rest of the leg!

Please sent me your diet immediately.

ROFL Slc…is that why I have to wear 2 bras when I ride. Trust me ladies, they are not an assest when you are a rider, especially when you are short waisted.

I have really toned up in my thighs…all my breeches sag big time in my arse and my thighs…however, my waist has gotten bigger.

“boobs are not…”

try telling that to my boobs (though if you DID try to tell them anything, you might wind up on a 72 hr hold).

they are whatever they WANT to be.

I have this wonky little muscle that pops up in the top of my forearm, about 3-4 inches back from my wrist, enormous biceps and a strange very prominent muscle across the front of my shin.

Those muscles on the top of the shin, and the area around my arm where it attaches to the body- I have a heck of a time with shirt sleeves cutting into my armpits thanks to that :frowning: .
But I still have cellulite on my butt and thighs. Thanks A LOT, pregnancy. (Btw Ibex, I think that’s the cure for your problem- pregnancy + nursing for a year= bigger tatas).
