Weird sweaty patch

Does anyone know what this is? Horse will be seeing the vet at the end of the month, but I thought maybe some wise COTHers might have seen this before.

This patch of skin is wrinkly and it’s always sweaty. You can see the salt deposits from the sweat. I’ve never seen anything like it. Is it a scar of some kind?

Any ideas?

Stuff like this is often a little nerve damage. Usually nothing to worry about, just kinda weird.

Acupuncture might help, if you want to try to resolve it.

I found this article helpful.

Yes, likely nerve damage. This is a new one for me.

My mare had one of those on her flank for a couple of years. Then she was diagnosed with PPID, started on prascend, and it went away. Might be a coincidence but symptoms of PPID include “inappropriate sweating.” I asked my vet what that meant and didn’t get much of an answer. Maybe someone else here had a similar experience?

Another vote for scar tissue. I’d do some massage and fascia release work on the area.

My current horse has a small oval-shaped patch of white hairs on his left point of buttock and he always breaks out sweating in that area before anywhere else. If you pull his tail aside and look carefully from the rear, you can see an old scar going from the white hairs all the way over to his anus. And his anus is slightly tilted. I believe it’s nerve damage from the old injury (before I owned him).

So I’m with the others who say nerve damage.

I long time ago my mare had tissue harvested from her flanks for stem cells and it left weird sweaty spots like that. Those two little spots would always start sweating first. fwiw they did eventually go away or at least become unnoticeable.
