Wellington jumper programs

Who would you all recommend for a jumper program based in Wellington?

Experienced ambitious adult amateur with goals of highs/gp level (long term). Would love to find a program with good instruction, great horse care and reasonable rates *for Wellington.

Crooks Showjumping is based in Wellington this half of the year (they’re local to me in the PNW). Competitive program with a great group of amateurs.

Carly Anthony Showjumping - she’s worked for top international riders. Incredible rider and trainer.

I’m sure you’ll get tons of recommendations

You are looking for a great program in a high rent district. Reasonable rates are going to be relative.

Agreed, looking for “Reasonable Wellington” rates.

I show with Val Renihan- I know not the usual suspect since she is so heavy on the equitation kids but she does a great job with jumpers and I really enjoy their program as an ammy. I find it a noticeable difference to be somewhere that teaching is the main focus versus what the pro does kind of begrudgingly so they can have horses to ride. I haven’t done wellington with anyone else to know what pricing looks like comparatively but my sense is that they are average for something on that level, and she Happy to talk more via DM.

Are you looking for a program actually based in Wellington or one that is there for WEF and is based elsewhere (between shows) the rest of the year? Are you coming with a horse or are you looking to buy with that trainer? If you currently have a horse, what level are you jumping currently? There are some programs that are goign to be great for fine tuning a combination and helping them go from 1.30m to 1.45m, some that will be great for helping a rider go from the adult jumpers to the next level, some that are good at producing young horses up the levels, etc. and they aren’t necessarily all the same program. Outside of WEF, if you’re looking for someone to work with year round, which shows do you want to go to? Are you willing to go to Spruce or Europe? Or are you looking for someone that stays stateside and/or predominately Zone 4/5 (for instance)?

I’ll be bringing 3 experienced mares, and am not looking to purchase soon. I’m in the 1.20 and would like to find a program based in Wellington that travels stateside in the summers that can coach from an amateur 1.20 to regional GPs.

Got it! Most of the programs I have personal experience with are either based elsewhere and/or go to Spruce or Europe in the summers. Maybe check out Nagata Sporthorses/Leatherstocking https://www.leatherstockingfarm.com . I don’t know what their summer plans are but they have a lovely Wellington base and may have more competitive rates (I don’t know what they charge) and they are really lovely people. Sweet Oak is also based in Wellington but I suspect they are on the higher end of the price spectrum.

Where in the states would you like to go in the summer? East coast? West? Middle ( like KHP and WEC North)? Or keep horses with trainer and fly yourself in to show?

I suggest Norman Dello Joio. Great teacher. Wembley Farm

Norman used to always go to Spruce Meadows in the summer. Unless that’s changed, he wouldn’t fit the OP’s stateside year round criteria. I agree he is a great teacher though and is one of the recommendations I had before clarifying the OP’s summer plans.

Three horses might be hard to absorb into any program this time of year, but you might check with Gavin Moylan. He runs a super level-headed program and does the GP + a lot of young imports. I don’t think they do a ton of outside clients/kids, but think they have a few committed amateurs. Usually does the VA shows mid-year, and some others like Tryon or KY.
