Welsh/Warmblood Crosses

Th![](s pony was out of my small Trak/Tb mare by a Section A Welsh. Ended up being 14.1, her dam was a maiden.

Alicia from Barrington Hill has some beautiful Welsh cross foals from her Hanoverian stallion Escapade. I took my daughter and her friends down to ride some of them on our last vacations to Fl. They were all fancy, sweet and nice movers. My kids had a blast with them. We are going to cross him with our Silver Buckskin Welsh Cross mare. Here are a few pictures Escapade’s Welsh crosses.

Fairview, I think I rode that one about 3 years ago (is the timing right?) - he was green but had great balance and a really nice way of going. I always wondered what happened to him…

On a related topic, my trainer has a Connemara/Oldenburg cross that is lovely and got me to thinking about the pony/warmblood mix - glad to see others are having success with it. We vertically-challenged types sometimes like to be able to see over our horses:)

That may be right. I believe he was a 2003 baby. His breeder was a Dressage judge, said he was a good mover, and a super jumper, and she sold him as a 4 year old, and I have not heard since. I hate losing touch with the babies. :frowning:

A friend of mine has a Welsh/WB, he is adorable. An extremely fancy little buckskin with a dark mane and tail and four white socks. I know she was hoping he would stay under 14.2 (as she bought for resale) but he is 14.3, which is fine if you are an FEI pony.

He moves like a much bigger warmblood in an extremely eyecatching little package. She has shown him over fences as well and he has had no trouble with the distances.

This kind of horse is much too small for me but if I were several inches shorter I would certainly be looking at these type of horses too!

Mapleside Farm also used their WB stallion Magical successfully with pony mares and now also have a stallion named Mapleside Mr. Magic who is out of a Magical daughter who is siring some nice movers. The woman whose program it was passed away due to cancer and her husband is now dispersing ponies but my understanding is that they will continue to stand Mr. Magic to public stud. There is a large daughter of his that will be in the Pony Finals sale that is owned by Double G Stables and she is very nice.

Yes, as a couple people already mentioned I have tried this twice with great success with an imported German WB mare and Wedderlie Mardi Gras. We have two fancy palomino foals as the result.

Also, as others mentioned, this is not an uncommon F1 cross to see with the GRP’s.

In staying tuned we will see what I end up with. I bred my hunter mare by Blue Who out of a TB mare, she is just under 14.1 to Ridley (you can google him). I hope to get a large but, he may go over, who knows. Either way I am very pleased with him in many ways and just bred her back. PM if you’d like to see pics.

Has anyone attempted to breed them taller? As a vertically challenged hunter rider I would be very interested in finding this type as my next horse.[/QUOTE]

Celia Evans at Dragonslair in Newberry FL has about three (I think) welsh section B x SWB crosses there…or she did
