I have two saddles stamped “Western by Billy Cook”, are these legit Billy Cook saddles? Both stamped 605. I can’t find anything online about them. I was thinking they were the longhorn style but the stamps do not look like the typical stamps for the longhorn unless it is an old stamp?? Any input would be great. They are super comfy whatever saddles they are!
Is there any numbers under the fender? Do you have any pics of the whole saddle? Possible Simco? Latigo keepers can be changed out, however that doesn’t look like a Longhorn or Billy Cook logo. Simco/Longhorn was merged with Action Saddlery - 1981 & 1990. http://www.actioncompany.com/about.php
I went through this with my Simco - saddle history is fascinating but at the end of the day if the saddle fits you and your horse that’s what counts. Having an authentic saddle is just a bonus!
I have not looked under the fenders. But both saddles have exactly the same latigo keepers as well as they are both stamped on the back of the saddle behind the seat. Here is a picture of the whole saddle as I did not have one of mine. I found this picture on someone else’s post asking exactly the same thing but that is the ONLY reference I could find to this saddle and no one really knew there either. Their saddle is also stamped with the exact same stamp and is the exact same saddle as mine so guessing it is not a fluke there are three identical saddles all with the same stamp. Just wondering who and when they were made
Depends on age of the saddle. The Billy Cook brand was bought out a few years back and no longer has the same quality or craftsmanship.
You can check out this site http://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/3128-billy-cook-saddle-history/ to see if maybe they can help. It is a forum board on the Billy Cook saddles, old to new.
You might try contacting Cadlwell Saddle. The owners both worked for Billy Cook (in Buford, GA) years ago.
Do you have any information? I have the exactly same saddle! Super comfortable as well!! I would love to know where it is from☺️
