Please let’s not make this into a trainwreck about if Western Dressage is true dressage or not.
Does anyone know of any Western Dressage shows/clinics this year in Georgia/Alabama? Please let me know if you have heard of any.

Of course it is not Dressage itself.
Jack Brainard himself will tell you that, since dressage itself is training, he borrowed the name for basic western training with a dressage influence.
No one should expect Western Dressage to be like “real” dressage.
Using a catchy, well known name to promote what you do is fine, as long as it is not trademarked.
Is there not some Western Dressage association website you can find with posted dates?
To closest thing I could find to GA was some dressage association in NC that offers some Western Dressage classes at their shows.
BDCTA Offered Western Dressage at their two schooling shows last year. More information may be found here: www.bdcta.com (Birmingham, AL).If you let them know of your interest they will likely offer them again. They’ve been quite gracious about offering gaited dressage classes for me
How about any in SC. I was given a great horse for Christmas and would love to do something with him before we start reining.
Our GMO is offering western dressage tests starting at our first show of 2012 in February. We are in Jacksonville about 45 mins give or take from the GA line.
We have a schooling series here in the Charlotte area that is going to offer Western classes this year…probably a little too far to travel, though!
Thanks everyone! It looks like Alabama the only place close to me that will offer them. I hope the gdcta will offer them in the future.
Have you contacted Donna Stegman at Poplar Place and made a request?
Stride dressage, the GMO in Ocala, will be offering western dressage at our schooling shows this year. All our shows are at the Florida Horse Park.
And of course it IS dressage. Read the judging guidelines. Pure gaits, contact,… sounds like dressage to me!

I have not but that is a great idea! I was on their website last night to look at the classlist for their schooling shows. I also thought about contacting the GDCTA as well.
Thanks!!!
