Western Dressage Shows

I’ve been looking in to western dressage, but I’m having a hard time getting info. Maybe someone can answer my questions.
Where do you show western dressage? I looked on the WDAA current events calendar but it looks like only schooling shows are listed. Are these accepted by WDAA for points and championship qualifying? Can I show western dressage at a USDF recognized show?

I’m not currently competing in WD. I have one that I have headed in that direction, I think, but he is no where near being ready to compete. So, I can’t speak from first hand experience.

The place to start finding the answers to your questions is probably with your state’s WDA chapter. You can find the links to the individual state associations on the WDAA web site.

Next place to look is your state’s or your area’s dressage group membership organization (GMO). GMOs are the USDF-affiliated clubs. In my state, some of the GMOs have added western dressage tests to their regular dressage competitions.

I know nothing about the breed-specific competitions like WD at Morgan shows.

Can I show western dressage at a USDF recognized show? no. Western Dressage, like Gaited Dressage, will not be found at a USDF recognized show. USDF GMO’s may elect to offer either or both at a Schooling show, but no- not at a recognized show…as neither is ‘recognized’ by USDF.

You’d need to read the WDAA rulebook to see what they require in terms of who’s qualified to judge WD in their eyes. What points and championship stuff are you seeking? WD? Morgan? QH? Best I can tell there is no WDAA First Level High Point award…now if you’re showing Morgans then the Morgan folks maybe are recognizing it…but who are you seeking to earn points under?
