What did I not make clear there?
I will try if you ask more specific questions.

It does include all in the world in whatever the competition may be, if it is open to all, even if only a few in the world and in only one place are competing.
There is a world championship saddlebred show, I think.
I don’t think there are saddlebreds all over the world that come to it?
I don’t think “world” there means everyone in the world HAS to be there, just that, for that competition, all that can are participating as per the rules.
Then, I have been wrong before.

Please show me where I denigrated the sport? You can’t because I didn’t. It’s a growing sport, open to horses of all breeds and abilities and attractive to riders of all ages and skill levels. What’s not to like about the sport? What I don’t like is the NAME of a single show misrepresenting itself as a world championship when it is neither a championship nor a world championship. A name change would solve that problem. Nothing to do with the sport at all. We have Western dressage classes at all our shows here and they are a great addition, growing in popularity every year. And several of our local riders do travel to Oklahoma for the show each year and love it.
And a international qualifying process by which horses and riders are ranked and selected to represent their country. You can call it a World Championship if you want. You can call it the Olympics if you want, it that doesn’t mean the winner of a class is actually an Olympic champion. Even if they called it the World Show I wouldn’t object. But the term “World Champion” actually has a specific meaning.
It has nothing to do with the quality of the riding or how much people have invested to participate in the show. People spend a fortune and travel huge distances to compete at Congress, or the Rolex 3 Day Event in Kentucky, or at the dressage shows in Wellington or Del Mar. It still doesn’t make them world champions. Maybe I’m just old fashioned thinking a title like that should mean something.
One little futurity my horse won, long before reining was a participant in the olympics in anyway, was called Olympic Futurity because it was one more exhibition event, part of the many other than the proper “Olympic” events that happened at that time, in that place where the “real” Olympics were happening.
Guess it should have been called “Pseudo Olympic Futurity”, to please those that want everyone to know it is not the real thing, as if everyone didn’t already know that.
Similar to World Frog Jumping some little town promotes is not really about the whole world of frogs.
There is context to much we do.
You denigrated every other sport that has a legitimate World Championship…
Either way the organizers were vulnerable to legal goings on.
“The IOC registers trademarks, in particular through the WIPO Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks, relating to its permanent properties (which are common to each edition of the Olympic Games), such as the Olympic symbol and the words “Olympic”, “Olympiad” and “Olympic Games”. It also seeks protection for identifiers related to a specific edition of the Olympic Games, such as the official emblem of that edition of the Olympic Games and the City+Year word mark, for example “Rio 2016”, “Pyeongchang 2018” and “Tokyo 2020”.”
Maybe they had proper permission to use the “olympic” name for that one event?
Seriously ??
I doubt they have that much clout or money.
The IOC do not want their marks devalued by rinky-dink outfits hijacking them. That way an OLYMPIC championship has standing.
Again…the AQHA WORLD SHOW was The World long before anyone from any other country showed up.
my stars and garters some of yall, yeesh.
I have no issue with the term “World Show” as long as they aren’t calling their winners world champions.
Congratulations, OP! I am so glad you had such a fantastic experience. Your mare is stunning, too.
Are you involved in WD in any way?
Muses…
If my new mare is a star, maybe I could aim at the 2020, Not really the World Championships, of not quite Western, or Dressage when it comes to it!
It’s a new sport, it’s growing, it’s fun, it benefits horses and riders, and gives us older ladies something to aim at.
i have hanging on my wall at home a first place ribbon, with International Freestyle printed on its tails. It is very pretty, but it was an online show, and I remain convinced I was probably the only entry…but heck it makes me smile on dark days.
Not yet but if I had a suitable horse would definitely give it a try! Or when my current horse is ready for a change I might even try with him. I think it’s a great sport and have several friends who compete in it.
And again to be clear, I’ve heard the Oklahoma show is a fabulous experience. Placing or winning a big class there is a big accomplishment and the OP has every right to be proud. My only issue is with the show’s name.
I also have no issue with the term “dressage” being used for Western dressage - there are plenty of us who try to compete in traditional dressage who don’t look down on the Western version at all. Dressage simply means training, doesn’t it?
If you don’t create the competition, they can’t aspire to get there. None of this is magic.
What the heck else would you call them? And seriously, what does it matter? What a bunch of knickers in a twist over the name of a show. The whole MLB world series must cause some of you much angst since only NA is involved. At least with this show anyone is welcome to attend from any where in the world.
OP I’m sorry your wonderful post has devolved into a bunch of nitpicking about the name of the show. It doesn’t bother me a bit, but coming from the QH world, I’m used to seeing World Show Champions.
This.
Seriously?
They were part of the celebrations around those olympics.
Many others were also called olympic this and that, much merchandise, vendors themselves.
I would say they all were asked to participate and licensed and monitored by the city that put those olympics, to conform to whatever the rules there may have been, is how those events are organized.
