Actually no, it’s not. The IOC has iron-clad rules around using the world Olympic, or any of its associated imagery and logos in order to protect that exclusive right for its sponsors and advertisers who pay a fortune for the privilege. They have been known to threaten, send cease and desist letters and even sue everything from large companies to community groups and small mom and pop shops who just want to take part in the Olympic spirit by using the word in their marketing or hosting “Olympic” events. The host city doesn’t have a say in it, nor any authority to licence or monitor it/
Here’s the flyer for the 25th Dog Olympics, rings and all, held in 2016

so I’m BETTING a horse show could get away with it LOL.
And the NOLA Cooking School of Olympics:

Oh dear, now I’m hungry. The Olympics of seafood

I’m not saying they don’t exist, just disagreeing with Bluey’s belief that they are all approved and licensed and sanctioned.
NOLA Cooking School Olympics does sound delicious! I’ll pass on the seafood one though. Unless it’s seafood participating in Olympic sports, like lobster racing  That could be entertaining.
Better inform MLB that they have to rename the World Series. Thank goodness we have dressage riders to set us straight!
Thanks for posting your review of this show and the numbers above. Question: Looks like the Lazy E used their existing sand/clay footing. Was this OK with the exhibitors and trainers, and did anyone come to this show expecting sand/fiber blend " Dressage footing " ? Thanks.
PS, Still live near La Colina?
To be fair, I think the World Series is a ridiculous name too, since there’s only one non-American team and I drive my husband crazy complaining about it each year when it rolls around
However I’m certain MLB doesn’t care about my opinion any more than the Western dressage powers that be and I’m sure neither is about to change it’s name just because afew people think words should actually be used with their intended meaning.
Not sure why the dig about dressage riders though - are we not allowed to have opinions? Or just not allowed to have opinions that disagree with yours? And aren’t Western dressage riders dressage riders too?
Hi All,
I did it again, wandered off from my post and sheesh… my point in starting this thread was to share a really neat experience, a show that was both well-produced and that encouraged the exhibitors to do their best and enjoy the chance to compete at the highest level our sport currently offers.
Any time you have a show with FORTY different breeds of horses competing together on a pretty darn level playing field, I think something wonderful is happening!
Henceforth, to disturb everyone equally, I shall refer to my Wonder Pony as
THE INTERGALACTIC WESTERN DRESSAGE PONYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE KNOWN COSMOS ™
Plumcreek-
I believe the footing was whatever they usually use at Lazy E. The grounds crew were really on it, and I didn’t hear anyone kvetching. About anything, actually…
If they can rope on it, we can lope on it…
Bravo…you also win the internet for this evening…
Love it!
You did a great job, there are always people out there who will find something to criticize.
@Miss Motivation lovely picture! It sounds like a great show.
I saw this thread went to 4 pages. Never dreamed it was because “World Championship” got people’s panties all wadded up and OMG no qualifying scores!!! Couldn’t you guys have started another thread about your hang ups with this new discipline instead of crapping all over this thread?
I’m more surprised that people have their panties all wadded up over the fact that some people think a championship should have qualifying scores. Is it really that outrageous a suggestion?
Nobody has crapped all over the thread, or disparaged the sport, the show or the OPs significant accomplishment. The OP wondered why the Chronicle wasn’t interested in an article about the show. I offered one reason why they might think the “world championship” name lacked credibility (though I also said they would be wise to pay attention to the sport and the show). That’s it. And everybody is losing their minds about it.
