Western saddle + brass rivets and hardware = green goo...how to manage?

So i have an older hardseat saddle that I adore. The “rivets” as you were, are brass. They exude that thick, dark green goo. I’m presently cleaning and oiling this saddle. I’ve rubbed/scraped most of it off. Is there anyway to prevent it and/or what’s the best way to deal with it?

TIA!

Just rubbing brass gets that green off for us.

You can try baking soda and lemon juice or vinegar on a Q-tip or with an old toothbrush, if it is embedded where you can’t get to it to rub it clean.

Best way to prevent it is to keep it clean, rub it to a shine every time you clean the saddle.

Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol. Be careful around the leather.
