Western Saddle Pad Recommendations

I show at stock horse shows and I need a new saddle pad. I have looked at the Professional Choice brand but there are lots of different styles. I like the felt bottom style because it seems easier to clean (brush off).

Can anyone recommend a specific style or ‘model’ that they have had good success with? I want the Navajo top.

Thanks for any suggestions.

We have a bunch of these at the ban I work at and we love them. They have a foam bottom and at the end of the day we spray them off with a listerine solution. They hold up fantastic. Ours are used about 30 times each and still look great. Then you can just get whatever patterned or colored saddle blanket you want to show in and put it over top. Gives your horse the cushioning he needs while still remaining versatile.

Actually I was thinking of the felt bottom with Navajo tops. Specifically the air ride but there are lots of variations of this.

Any other suggestions?

I really LOVE my 5-star felt pad. Of course, it doesn’t have a Navaho top, so i through one on top of it when i want to be fancy… I didn’t like the air-ride at all and donated it to a rescue because it didn’t do what I expected it to.

Love my Thineline Comfort western pad with wool fleece and pockets for inserts. No Navajo though, plain black. But the horse is comfy.

I have two Professional Choice pads, one HD and one regular. I always use a thin felt liner underneath. The liners go in the washer and the pad itself air dries and stays pretty presentable. If I had to start over, I would get another of the HD pads.

5 Star gets my vote every time, just throw a navajo on top.

I love my Classic Equine pads, I have the ESP with the navajo top and felt bottom, it still looks new after 5 years! I also have the countour-pedic pad which is foam and a felt top, it’s also a great pad. My mare is picky and goes well in both of them, and I am able to put a show navajo on top of either of them.

I second the Classic Equine pads. I think mine is the contour-pedic, foam bottom felt top. I use it every time I ride and put a show Navajo on top for shows. Not all saddles fit all horses but I’ve had my saddle on a lot of different sized horses and with this pad I’ve never had any fit issues. Need to add it’s now 4 years old and still looks brand new, even after surviving an EF5 tornado and being submerged in flood water for close to 12 hours.
