Western Themed Dog Names!!

I recently adopted a female blue heeler puppy! She needs a cute western themed name for going to the AQHA shows with me  Doesn’t have to be girly, and can be gender neutral. Brand names, terms, anything! Growing up, we had a red heeler named Sheila, so an Australian name would be good too!

Cinch and Dally are pretty popular names.

My mom had a border collie named Howdy.

Riata. Cowgirl. Skid. Lasso, Lass. Reiner. Cutter.

Once knew a barn dog named Cowboy, so I think Cowgirl would be cute. I like Riata and Dally too.

I named my dog Cowboy Roy after my childhood TV hero. We call him Cowboy. It is a lot of fun when you take him to horse things to say “Hey Cowboy, get over here!” Ha ha

we have a GSD named Sage

My corgi mix is Lane Frost and my heeler mix who passed away a few years ago was Tie. I know a Dally (several), Cash, Rope, Cinch, Cody, Fly, Mesa, Spur, Ranger, Bandit, and I’m sure several I’m forgetting.

My Aussie mix is Beezie, so I like names from all over the horse world.

my friend had a really prickly heeler she called ‘Cactus’

Kemah
Dallas

Love this, Reata - Buck Brannaman named his daughter this. Here is the definition:

reata - a long noosed rope used to catch animals. lariat, riata, lasso. running noose, slip noose, noose - a loop formed in a cord or rope by means of a slipknot; it binds tighter as the cord or rope is pulled.

Spur
Boots

Congrats on the pup! I have a heeler mix and I really wanted to name her Sheila however her name is Dinosaur because of all the chomping that heeler puppies love to do.

Coolest one I’ve known was named Sheriff. It really suited that dog, too!

My female heeler is Chica. My grandad had a male named Chico so Chica is named after him. Its Spanish but kind of western. I also knew a heeler named Hondo, which is part of a lariat and a John Wayne western.

Update: Got a name!

Thanks everyone!
I’m going with Jess. Its the name of one of the main characters in The Man From Snowy River (If you haven’t seen this western set in Australia, you should) :)
