What do U ride in while riding western? Pictures?
I totally misread your post, I think. Do you mean for showing or just every day?

Oh, that’s easy! Jeans, weather appropriate top, helmet, terrains. Nothing special, really.
No pictures because I have not ridden western in years and none of them are digital.
English breeches, boots and spurs. shrug
I hate riding in jeans.
When I rode western on a regular basis, I had been known to ride in breeches and half chaps just because they are comfier. I have never ridden in western boots-- absolutely hate them. Always had paddocks and then terrains once they came out.

I haven’t found a pair of western boots that didn’t crush my feet while riding…somehow they fit FINE for walking…
When I showed Western this year (badly…I need a lot more practice, my horse was soooooo embarrassed) I wore black tights and chaps and my English paddock boots. I felt I looked the part. Until the call to lope…:lol:
Yep, just added kilties to my paddock boots, put chaps on over black breeches, found a blingy shirt and away I would go! (Actually, back when I was showing, vests were the way to go and they had not near the bling of the shirts now!)
The lope was a killer. I swear, it is HARD to pick up riding that well!
Tee or Tank, Sports Bra, English Tights or English riding jeans, Suede Half-Chaps, Justice Boots (http://www.justinboots.com/boots/womens_water.html?424fccf8=L0919) and when needed Spurs.
I also normally wear a helmet.
If it’s just general schooling, jeans and paddock boots with a comfortable shirt, gloves, and a helmet. Since we’re going into cool weather riding, I like to wear a fleece pullover or zip-up vest/jacket.
On trail, I may wear my smooth leather schooling chaps as added protection against the thorns and branches. And, again, the helmet. Troxel has some nice western-looking helmets like the Sierra which are (IMO) quite comfortable.
I prefer not to wear a shirt that buttons up the front because, being a klutz, I do tend to get things caught on saddle horns.:o :winkgrin:
Heck, I have been known to hook my bra on the horn when going uphills:eek:, though if you’re planning on just sticking to the arena that may not be as much of an issue for you.
If you’re looking at show clothes - you mentioned that you won’t actually be showing until spring.
So, rather than going crazy and buying a bunch of show clothes now, just start looking at catalogs. Try browsing web sites like Rod’s Western Palace for ideas, and ask your trainer what is acceptable dress in your local circuit and classes. Use this time to learn how your horse should be turned out, too, so that there’s no mad scramble the week before your first show.
jeans, tank top, sunglasses, ropers with my spurs. maybe a ball cap, too.

Why ARE you changing your discipline? Just because your going to learn western doesn’t mean you have to dress like it every day too.
Then again, my definition of a true cowgirl and many others is vastly different, as many are not when they claim to be.
You have a phenomenal mare, you will do good if you take your time, do your best, and get a trainer who knows what needs to be done. Good luck.

I’m a Western rider that doesn’t ride English so I don’t own nary a pair of breeches or half chaps.
For arena work I wear:
Jeans
Cowboy Boots (get 'em wet and break 'em in)
Knee socks (very important, hate when my socks sink)
Sports bra (hate hunting for bra straps by my elbows)
short/long sleeve t-shirt
fleece jacket (if needed)
down vest (if needed)
jacket (if needed)
favorite Carhart cap
For trails I add:
Oil skin coat (if raining)
helmet (if riding alone or if responsible for someone else)
oil skin chaps (if raining)
Nothing special. Depending on the weather I’ll wear whatever shirt or hoodie I happen to be wearing that day, jeans, and boots.

Show gear depends on what I’m showing. Pleasure I’ll wear a nice blouse from hobby horse or my vest and slinky, chaps, boots, belt, and hat. For barrels or roping I’d wear a button up long sleeve shirt with a collar, jeans, belt, and hat/helmet.
This was at a roping competition at cow camp, rainy and cold.
