I’m buying a colt, who will be a gelding, so I realize it doesn’t make a huge difference in the end. But, he’s eligible for inspection in both registries. All things considered, which would you choose and why? Obviously he’s not going to be breeding stock, but could it make a difference in a potential future sale? I’m also thinking about All Breeds awards for USEA and/or USDF…performance awards in the registries themselves?
Registration provides proof of pedigree, so that’s a bonus if he’s sold again before really doing much under saddle
Are you going to have to take him, or will the current owner get that done before shipping him to you?
They will have inspections for both registries at the farm he’s on right now. So I won’t need to take him myself, thank goodness! I plan to be there, but have never handled a foal in an inspection.
Whichever one is least expensive. Honestly, it makes little difference
For USDF all breeds awards, Westfalen has a much smaller competition pool of 665 horses vs 1829 for GOV.

That’s helpful to know! Thank you!
