Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show On Tonight!

Part 1 tonight at 8 p.m. EST on USA, then switching over to NBC at 9 p.m.; Part 2 tomorrow night.

I don’t show dogs, but do LOVE watching the Westminster show - so many gorgeous dogs.

I personally am boycotting watching it this year.

Westminster pulled Pedigree Dog Food’s “sponsership” of the event because their viewers “didnt want to see homeless pets” on commercials during the event.

Many know Pedigree does ALOT regarding adoptions and the pet overpopulation in our country…I dont feed pedigree, but I support their efforts.

It was actually on last night, but I won’t spoil the surprise as to who won Best in Show

I (personally) was very pleased with the result…

No…Westminster starts today. Best in Show won’t be until tomorrow night. Maybe you got to watch last year’s again?

I have a friend who has a bitch entered tomorrow. I’m so excited for them!!

Don’t forget about the live feed if you want to watch the breed competitions: http://characterchatter.usanetwork.com/wkc/show.php

Personally, I am one that would also rather not see the homeless/shelter Pedigree commercials during the country’s oldest and most famous exhibition of purebred show dogs. I have no problem with Pedigree commercials, but think their placement during Westminster is rather odd.

That’ll teach me to watch something right as I’m turning in for the night and too tired to pay close attention (and yeah, I thought it was on tonight–hubby was flipping through the channels, found it, and said: “hey! Look what’s on!” :))

I hope tonight’s result is the same as last year’s. And last night’s. :stuck_out_tongue:

So don’t watch - no one is twisting your arm.

But if you’re not watching because of the Pedigree sponsorship being pulled - really now. First off, if you don’t feed Pedigree & thus don’t support them, I frankly don’t understand your boycott position at all. It’s rather out of sync, dontcha think? Do you think Westminster or Pedigree really cares whether or not you watch? And second, I tend to be a rather solid cynic when it comes to companies like Pedigree that blow their own horn in the guise of altruism. Honestly now - do you really believe that Pedigree spouts all this heart-rending stuff & donates, etc., out of the goodness of their hearts? It’s one of the longest & best-known current marketing ploy on the advertising planet.

So again - don’t watch the show, but please don’t do it in the name of Pedigree. That’s a bit ridiculous (especially since you don’t even use their products - LOL!!!)

Sorry Dr. Doolittle - Impossible for a re-do. Hickory the Scottish Deerhound won Best in Show last year. (Still doing happy dances!!!) She’s now retired in Virginia and whelped a lovely litter of 7 puppies. Hickory and her pups were featured on CBS Sunday Morning show yesterday.

This year’s Scottish Deerhound in the Hound Group will be Brumby (GCH Brakenshire Scotch N Ice). No one in the SDH community is expecting another BIS. Last year was the first time a Deerhound ever won - so the odds are quite long.

Thanks for the heads up! I don’t feed Pedigree either but that has no bearing at all on my appreciating all they do for unwanted pets!

Ditto.

Westminster Dog Show Parts Ways With Pedigree, a Longtime Sponsor:

the Deerhound last year was lovely, my husband was rooting for her, I would love to see another German Shorthaired win, that was so exciting for me as a GSP owner even if he is “just” a pet

I never liked having to see all the Pedigree commercials so I for one will be glad not to have to see them this year! Don’t like their crappy food and could care less about them as a company.

Oh and they are streaming live a lot of the show today & tomorrow so you can watch your favorite breed classes online

Well, rats! I did know about this “local girl” (local to us), too bad history won’t be repeating itself. :sigh: She is absolutely gorgeous…Maybe we’ll see one of her puppies competing in a couple years? (I wish I had seen the news segment!)

I am a Sighthound fan (we have two Whippets, one of whom was one of a litter of 5 out of a bitch who showed at Westminster in 2010; obviously “mom” didn’t win ;), but we were all thrilled when a Whippet did win the Hound Group that year, and what an exquisitely beautiful example of the breed she was.)

Our girl will never see the show ring, alas; unlike her dam, her head is a little too big for the breed standard. (Oh, well–I would rather hemorrhage money into horses than dog shows anyway. :D)

The same breeders who own our Whippet’s dam also show Newfies, and own Marco (# 3 Newf in the country), they are at Westminster with him as we speak; I am trying to access the live feed to watch some of the judging, but can’t stay by a computer all day, unfortunately! Look forward to watching it tonight, when it’s actually on (Doh.)

I missed the Ridgebacks! Damn! I had no idea they had a live stream!

The FULL SISTER to the puppy I’m getting this spring took breed, though! I can’t wait to see her in the group ring tonight

Congrats and good luck to her in the group. Hope she gets Group 2 to the Deerhound - lol!

You must be so excited for your puppy.

Do Hounds go first tonight?

You can still see the breed judging on the website, they leave up the tapes for at least a week.

Good. do not watch it, we do not care.

I, for one, am so thrilled that Pedigree is gone! Westminster is a celebration of well bred dogs(AND WELL Planned breedings). The Pedigree ads over the year have all run counter to the mission of the AKC and WKC. I am thrilled that Purina has stepped up and Purina does a heck of a lot more for ALL dogs than Pedigree does. No one in their right minds would feed that crap anyway… I look forward to the Purina ads that I am sure will be well done!!:cool:

This whole “Pedigree” controversy amazes me. I am really surprised – and dismayed, frankly – that there is so much animosity in the “Dog Fancy” community against promoting shelters and rescues. I do understand that Westminster is celebrating the epitome of purebred dogdom, but I believe the majority of the audience is just Joe Doglover. Why the backlash?

And no, I don’t feed Pedigree either.

Thanks for the heads up. I always enjoy watching the show. So neat to see breeds that I don’t run into every day.

I just checked out the list of dogs registered to show thinking that I’d possibly find a distant relative (or kennel) of my dog. But instead I found that her sire is showing! Woot! will have to root for him. Though I am not one with a ear to the dog show world so I am clueless if he has a chance or not.

Kind of neat, eh?
