Wet cat food that cats actually like?

Perhaps I need to buy one with cheese? I have to feed wet food because I have an older cat that needs flax seed for various reasons.

I am feeding EVO dry and was feeding the wet. Something is up with the EVO food though; on it my older cat’s coat turned dandruffy and dull, and flax seed has improved it a lot. The cats will eat the EVO wet if I add water and mince it up but I have concerns about EVO and omega 3’s at this point, even though it’s supposed to having herring in it. I may just order more EVO wet and add flax.

Ordered Before Grain wet and 2 cats like it and the older cat won’t touch it.

Why is life with wet food so incredibly complicated?

My cats LOVE Wellness, EVO, and Holistic Select canned food. They especially love the seafood varieties, but also reallyreally like the chicken/beef/duck varieties

I have not tried the Blue Buffalo canned, but I suspect it’s pretty palatable as well

Yes, I agree that something is up with the EVO, and I moved all my animals off of Natura Pet products earlier this year. I believe Proctor and Gamble has changed the food.

I’m surprised you’ve had problems with the Before Grain–my cats LOVE IT.

When I have a sick cat, I use Tiki Cat to get them to eat. It’s kitty crack in my house. Perhaps you could try that?

Which EVO formulas are you using? Where did you buy it and when?

I’m feeding one kitten now, and I do notice that she is a bit less eager with some of the firmer formulas. I think it’s the EVO beef that is just more solid in nature, while the cat/kitten formula, which is turkey and chicken, is more mushy, even coming out of the fridge.

The EVO is the chicken and turkey formula for the dry and wet. I started using it about 4 months ago. I have to add water and chop up the EVO wet or you should see the looks I get. :lol:

I will order the ones suggested next week.

My cat loves WeRuVa - a LOT. heh. He also goes for Solid Gold tuna, and Wellness (most varieties although there are a few he’s not so fond of).

Right now I’m feeding the older cat Friskies but she won’t eat the meat, only lap the broth. Sometimes they’ll eat the pate and sometimes not.

I was feeding Fancy Feast but there was something wrong with recent batches of it, because the two cats that were eating it got the runs.

Thanks for the suggestions. I know that eventually I’ll find something they like.

My SIL feeds Simply Nourish Chicken Stew to her kitties. I’m not a cat person, but her cats love it, and if I was starving, I’d pop open a can myself!

My cat won’t eat the pâté varieties of anything… she likes the chunky stuff. She got the pâté when she was a small kitten, but once we bought chunky stuff that was it… she wouldn’t touch the other stuff anymore.

You have to try different flavours, textures, and even brands sometimes and that even applies to dry food; Shur-Gain changed the kibble size on the barn cat formula dry to things about the size of a large BB and the cats refused to eat enough of it and despite double helpings of wet, they still lost a bit of condition over last winter (coats finally recovered just a couple of weeks ago). One thing about wet food to consider - even the poorer brands are better nutrition than a diet of straight dry food. I also feed Friskies shreds and gravy because Da Lip just cannot manage pate or large chunks (who’da thunk that a missing bottom lip makes a difference in what they can eat??), something I discovered after he healed up. The other indoor cats eat any style and most flavours with any fish pate being on the bottom of their list; barn cats don’t care, as long as it’s food.

I tried the “premium” canned foods.

No one would touch them.

They eat friskies canned, and taste of the wild dry.

Ditto this -I had my one wet food eating cat doing well on ToTW and then she suddenly stopped eating that. Found some other grain free varieties at Petco. Each one eventually she stopped eating, except for a few licks here and there. I fed her twice a day, after about 4 or 5 days of this I gave in and bought Fancy Feast (gravy lovers turkey or beef are the only 2 that are acceptable).

She licks all the juice and basically leaves most of the food chunks. :rolleyes:
But she’s not starving so we go with it.

My kitties went nuts for Wellness CORE. White it’s not on the EVO/Wellness CORE/Before Grain level, they also got really excited about “Chicken Soup…”

They thought aliens brought WeRuVa, but they’re not chunky-food eaters.

Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken, Weruva Mack and Jack, and many of the Tiki cat fish/chicken varities.

Wellness is popular, and now they’re making new ‘textures’ as well. (cubed, sliced, that kind of thing…) Mine love any flavor wellness, and fancy feast. Fancy Feast doesn’t sound ‘fancy’, but reading the labels, it is predominantly meat. Mine do well on it.

I feed Tractor Supply’s “paws and claws” can cat food. At .69 cents for a big can that lasts 3 feedings its a steal and not too terribly bad. 2 of the 3 formulas have by-product in it so I just get the one flavor.

My cat has been hurling Friskies canned Tuna and Fancy Feast makes her left eye water. That started maybe 7 months ago, so its off the list, except the turkey.
The only reliable thing is that what ever she likes now, she wont like next week.
The other cat is pretty good about eating the dry food. The older cat stopped eating dry food when she lost all her teeth.

Wellness and Wellness Core. My older Tortie girl devours it, all except for Chicken and Lobster (!!!) and it’s the only canned brand my young Siamese boy doesn’t immediately throw back up.

I’ve also heard Trader Joe’s canned cat food is good stuff, nutrition-wise. My cats love it.

My cats have all done great on Fancy Feast (“Classic” pate varieties only), and when I have a little extra $, Wellness (the grainfree varieties).

No dry food, ever.
