Oh no. I saw the start of the round and was thinking how much I liked that horse although it looked a little strong and naughty at the water. Didn’t see the fall and had to duck out, so I didn’t realize. Hope he’s ok!
Saw this on FB a few minutes ago. Hoping the long course hold is only due to jump having to be repaired and NOT any injury WFP incurred… ?? Praying he will be ok!

H & H are saying head injury. Head, neck, and spine are all terrifying.
I’m sure this will come out wrong on several levels, but he’s the one person who’s name I never wanted to see in any such headline. I’ve met him a few times and cannot think of a nicer person or better ambassador for the sport. I’m not saying I don’t care if other people get hurt, but you just don’t ever want to see bad stuff happen to such a good person.
The Fox-Pitt Eventing website says that he suffered a head trauma but is otherwise fine. He will be in the hospital overnight for observation.

I do not know how to interpret that. “Head trauma” could cover a broad range of effects. I don’t know what the strict medical definition includes, and doesn’t include.
I hope he will be ok, even if he needs a long recovery period.

I agree, he just seems like an absolutely lovely individual with a genuine love of horses.
I haven’t heard anything new and I hope that the “head trauma” is merely precautionary and he just has a mild concussion or something like that.

Even a mild concussion is a traumatic brain injury.

Yes. It sounds from the information given as though it’s a fairly mild concussion, which still needs to be taken seriously, of course … But hopefully isn’t the sort of thing that will have major long term effects.

If they’re being truthful in saying he is just going to be hospitalized overnight for observation, it’s not a severe TBI.
What was the nature of the fall? Ugh, I hate to see anyone injured, especially parents.

Absolutely–I apologize for making it seem like I was minimizing the seriousness of a concussion. I just meant I hoped that he hadn’t experienced a total loss of consciousness or something even more severe and the hospitalization was more for observation.
Sending hopes for a quick recovery. If he did lose consciousness ,even for a moment, that could explain the lengthy hold. Not necessarily a terrible injury.
I’ve had several concussions (two that resulted in loss of consciousness).
Medical folks are much more careful about evaluating head injuries these days and they really take their time if you aren’t awake to tell them where it hurts etc.:yes:

But the EMT in me wants to point out that a loss of consciousness – even a total loss – is often not as serious a finding as either anterograde or retrograde amnesia without a change in level of consciousness.
TBIs are tricky and don’t necessarily play by the rules.

Really? So if you don’t lose consciousness but can’t remember if you so much as hit your head on the way down, that is worse than losing consciousness?

I’m guessing it’s case by case. Personally, my unconscious TBI - ski accident, was far worse than my unconscious TBI - lawn darting off a bolting horse. Clearly remember that one 
Ski accident was very bad wiped out the entire day & several after the accident. Out of school for weeks. My 3rd concussion was in a car accident. Oddly the mildest but the only one to make me sick to my stomach for a couple days. As an aside the person who hit me was a mother with an infant in the car who was texting!! Hopefully that was a wake up call for that mother…
