WFP Hospitalized after course held for hour

Is it possible, as tall as WFP is, that he (his head) hit a part of the jump during the fall? I watched a video on the previous page of a rider going thru…and WFP being so tall in the saddle…

I hope there is more positive news soon.

Cheryl

I too had an awesome encounter. I was taking pics in the warm up at Rolex, and he saw me and cantered Chilli Morning across the ring right towards me - halted a few feet away and smiled, then winked. I just about died. He is a charmer that is for SURE. I have the most beautiful photo of him as a result.

Thoughts of Christopher Reeve have unfortunately surfaced in my head over this. Yuck.
Adding my prayers for his family and a wonderful recovery!!

He was gracious enough to take a selfie with me last Spring at Rolex while we waited for our lunch at the grill by the barns. One of the very best, in so many ways. Thinking of him and his family daily.

I am worried sick about WFP and saying prayers at every moment of the day. I fear that no news is not good news.

We need to keep the prayers rolling -

Was hoping to hear better news by now…

Many years ago I had a good whack in the head by a hoof and was unconscious for 3 days (not medically induced though) and I’m OK (sort of ;)).

Hoping for the best for WFP, and his family. He’s always seemed to be one of the good guys. He’ll come through!

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!!

Crap, there’s still no update?? I’ve never felt so nervous for someone I barely knew.

Me, too.

I’m worried about him, but I want to share this, as it may make everyone more hopeful and optimistic. We had a local football player who had a brain bleed following a game. He was in a coma for multiple weeks – long enough that he was moved to a sub-acute facility while still unconscious. After what seemed like an interminable time, he woke up, and during the days that followed, he regained his ability to communicate (at first by nodding and pointing, then by speaking words) and do simple tasks. He will need weeks or months of rehab, but it seems as if he will recover. So, the fact that someone may be unconscious for days doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t eventually wake up and start the road to recovery. Let’s hope this is the case for Mr. Fox-Pitt.

Thank you everyone for sharing all of the wonderful stories about WFP! I loved reading them and also all of the medical insight from the professionals in this thread. I keep hoping I will see an update in my FB or Twitter feed.

20/10/15 update regarding William Fox-Pitt
William’s condition remains the same with no change overnight. Alice Fox-Pitt and all of the family thank everyone for their good wishes and support, it means a huge amount.

This update follows the news on Saturday (17th October) that William Fox-Pitt and his horse Reinstated fell during the cross country phase of the 2015 World Championships for Young Horses in Le Lion d’Angers, France.

We will release further updates as and when further information is made available.

What subk said . . . .

he stopped after his Rolex first place dressage ride on Chili Morning to sign an autograph for my ten year old pony clubber at her first Rolex. As a mom, I will never forget that!

praying for you, WFP and family![/QUOTE]

I took a ton of photos one year of him signing for every little girl that approached him right after his dressage test (at Rolex). He was so gracious and that is reflected in every photo I took of him.

I talked his ear off for two straight hours during a course walk at Rolex in 2014 and he was soooo nice. Here he was, the number 1 rider in the world and asking us about our horses, what levels we were riding, what we thought about how to approach the fences, etc. The man has everything any of us could only dream about, and could have easily been the biggest prick on the planet for all he had. Instead he was the most gracious person I have ever met. It breaks my heart to know he’s going through this.

A tweet today from @aliceplunkett, whom I believe to be his wife – correct me – on the @foxpitteventing twitter feed said he “remains stable and under sedation. He is in great hands and is progressing well.” So perhaps that is cause for some increased hope.

Yes Alice Plunkett is his wife, that does sound hopeful.

That sounds like increased ICP. Fingers crossed for no brain damage when he wakes up!

I will take that as good news. Thank you for sharing it. He is such a class act. I am fervently hoping for more good news soon.
