What a Long Strange Month it Has been or "How a BB cursed my horse"

Wow–what a horrifying post. I’m so glad that the horses are both on the mend. Your story gave me the heebie jeebies.

My Irish grandmothers were strong believers in the fact that if one horse was hurt or sick, it always encouraged the horses it lived with to join it in the infirmary. You know, the herd instinct and all at its worse. Let no one make light of superstitions and such when it comes to horses.

Best of luck with the healing! And maybe you should think of getting Raven some swimming lessons–you could be the proud owner of the first horse to earn his life guard card…

Well then April FIRST it is - Did you hear that Robbie? Horse show on APRIL FIRST!!!

Hey so sue me we didn’t tell him about the little “practice” session the previous weekend…

Funny you should mention that 'klu… Plan B has been to aim for that show… Don’t want to get too firm in my plans though, Robbie has an amazing capacity to avoid showing, so I think I have to go about this in “stealth” mode…

Thanks for your good thoughts Boss and wicky!

Erin - Raven was VERY impressed with himself, I can tell you that! I had the pleasure of taking care of him when he was still on the track - 1st time for sesamoid surgery, second time for a suspensory. After I was done yelling at him, just looked at him and said (in a cold little voice) - “You used to be a MUCH better patient.”

Hang in there, DMK! Good luck and good wishes to you and your guys!

Thank goodness things are looking up and we can enjoy our drinking again!

Talk soon!

DMK, I’m soooo sorry all thatn happened!! Thank god UGA is so close and has such a wonderful team of vets there! I hope Robbie and Raven get better soon!

~Sarah

DMK - so glad to hear that things are working out. Your post was horrifiying but hilarious.

DMK, I’ve been busy getting a brief finished (anybody interested in the inticacies of the Swiss Private International Law Act?), and a few other things and just had a chance to read your story. Like Erin, I’ll have to admit I laughed pretty hard, but Yuck! But at least the final outcome is good. (knock on wood, fingers crossed, prayers to the horse gods)

I’m taking Lucien in to the chiropractor for a "nothing’s wrong but as long as Portia’s going back for her check-up we may as well have him checked too, just in case. I think we all know what Murphy thinks about things like this!

Oh boy! I’m so glad that they found that splinter, DMK!! Now, go to bed and get plenty of rest. I’ll tell you what happened on “West Wing” later.

Glad to hear that all is progressing well. And there I was thinking it was all an elaborate ruse for you to duck out of our lunch meeting on my last Atlanta trip!

Of course, I won’t imply that your bad streak of luck was passed on my way that same week. (Horse, dog, and CAR all had right rear lameness issues!)

Glad to know the prayers to St. Francis worked for everyone involved! Even the Jeep Cherokee!

I’m the one who said:

quote:
Beware of Murphy. Everyone assumes that, if you have two horses, when one of them is lame, you can ride the other. Unfortunately, it rarely happens like that. If something happens to one, almost inevitably something will happen to the other, and you will have two unridable horses.

I’M SORRY.
I TAKE IT BACK

SC - wow there are THREE of us nutty enough to take a swing at the A/O ring???

I’ll cheer for you if you hold my “crying towel” for me.

DMK - just don’t aim that scooter of yours at me!!! I’m not looking to have a “biltmoresqe” debut!

Glad both horses are on the mend.

Wow timing is everything. I just read the post earlier today about the cute what-his-name-guy and saw the picture posted of Robbie. I almost replied with a “So DMK what is Robbie doing these days?” Hadn’t read this one yet.

Whew, glad it looks like a positive on the mend.

I’m sure you will update as known.

When Raven was swimming did you have a fear that he would be tangled in his turnout or a fear of the weight of it wet impairing his swimming? I had this horrid vision of a you trying desperately to pull this writhing, drowning horse from the frigid pond.

So much for the vivid imagination. Glad all is better.
