The 2009-2010 hunt season has been an amazing season for me. I started the season as someone who really only hilltopped. Over the course of the year, I traveled north to hunt with the Fraser Valley Hunt (twice) and learned how to turn up the speed and join second flight. Then, on the last hunt for my club on April 24, I moved up to ride in the first flight. I never thought it was possible. To cap the year off, our closing dinner was just the other night, and I got my colors!!! I am so excited. I can’t wait to add that red collar to my jacket and see where this takes me!!
Big congrats!!!
Can I assume you hunt with Woodbrook?!
Did you take the Aidan O’Connell Clinic!!!
What’s the hunting like there? I would think the country
is gorgeous!!!
Congrats!
Congratulations! Earning your colors is such an exciting time!
Hug That horse !!!
CONGRATULATIONS ~ HUG THAT HORSE !
Big congrats to you!! Agree with Zu Zu–hug that horse!!
You got your colors your first year of hunting? Wow…
Bravo!
Congrats!!! I hope that next season rocks.
awm - yes, I hunt with Woodbrook. They are some of the best people I know. I did do the Aidan O’Connell clinic, but it really was the Fraser Valley Hunt people that brought me out of my shell. You should come hunt with us. It’s mostly wooded runs with jumps, but almost all jumps can be got around if you choose not to do them.
Allison - no this was my THIRD season with the club, but you might be right, it was my first REAL season hunting. I spent two and a half years hilltopping and too scared to do much of anything else but walk. This was the first year that I actually felt like I was hunting.
All - I hug my horse every day. She is the only reason I got my colors. She is amazing!!! I can’t wait for next season when I won’t have to worry about where to ride in my flight and maybe I can even lead a flight! Thanks for all the congrats.
Congratulations to you!
It’s such a wonderful feeling hunting with a group you’re comfortable with! Congrats on getting your colors. How proud you must be - for your first “real” season hunting!
I know I stepped in it with my hunt, and I thank my lucky stars each and every day. It’s like meeting extended family you didn’t know you had.
Looking forward to reading more posts next season.
Team Work
Congratulations to you both! I share your joy. My saintly guy Riley and I were awarded colors this past season. It happened at a meet and when the announcement was being made by one of our Masters, I had this huge smile on my face and was patting Riley on the neck.
Getting your colors usually means you know all of the territory well, hope you do.

Ideayoda, you are so right. I heard a rumor that in the past if they were considering giving you your colors, they would take you far out into our hunt territory and leave you alone to find your way back. I don’t know if that’s true, but I feel pretty confident that I could find my way back. I really consider myself fortunate that I keep my horse two farms down from our hunt club and ride on our territory nearly every day. Having daily access to the trails and runs really helps you get to know your way around.
Congratulations, pic, please?
Congratulations ! Quite an honor indeed:yes:; Will you show us a picture of you and your horse wearing your colors:cool:? Formal opening perhaps? or the blessing:cool:?
