What are you paying for Rimadyl?

I’ve recently started my old doggie on this and find it’s not too cheap. Last month I think I paid about $55 for a month’s supply at my small animal vet.

I just stopped by my equine vet and picked up a 2 month’s supply for $78.

What is everyone paying and where are the best prices? 800pedmeds was more expensive than my equine vet.

Hmm, I’d have to heck the exact price, tho for a fair comparison, let’s ID mg & #x/day since an owner with a dog dosed twice a day pays twice as many dollars yet the same rate as a once-a day dog woner pays–and that’s assuming the same dosage-my hundred pound shephered gets a triple dose compared to any 30 pound border collie. That said, when I last shopped around, I went with Fosters and Smith after just a couple of phone calls. They did the leg work of calling the vet and getting the Rx, too.

Jeez louise! I can only sympathize as I’ve got one on it but thankfully I work at a clinic so no price issues for me. If it were any other drug I’d tell you to do some research on some generics but its not as easy with Rimadyl. Its difficult being an NSAID, as you can cause gastrointestinal issues by switching them up too quickly. You COULD ask the vet about different variations and making a SLOW transition-- Deramaxx, Previcoxx, Vetprofen/Carprofen etc whatever’s in the to see if any run cheaper in your area.

To head back to your original question, I have always found the equine vet can get many things cheaper for me as well.

I don’t know what dosage you’re using, but you might look at the Valley Vets prices. Their 60 count bottle of 25 mg is $15 cheaper than 800-Petmeds.

Got 180 caplets, 75mg for $162 this morning.

As a comparison to US prices, last month in NZ I paid $78 for 21 x 100mg - pooch was on a half tablet morning and night and a months supply would cost on average $111 so yeah, pretty spency. Rimadyl gave him reflux so we stopped the rimadyl and went to pentosan injections instead, working great and much more affordable (loading dose of one shot weekly for four shots = $84 all up, thereafter monthly shot at $21 each) .

You have to have a washout period between NSAID meds for dogs. I’d be trying Adequan or similar injections. Fish oil capsules can help quite a bit too.

I think I paid around $32 for a 60 day supply of 25mg tablets at Banfield.

just paid $62 for 60 75 mg chewable at California Pet Pharmacy

then add on 5.50 for shipping and 5.43 for a total of 73.93 which is still better than the 55 I was paying my vet for 30. my guess is non CA folks won’t have to pay tax.

it has changed my dog’s life.

FWIW there are so many things people pay way too much for at the vets office. I always ask “can this be called in to target/dr fosters and smith/etc.” Prednisone for example…My vet charges $15 for 30 pills. You can get the exact same thing from the target pharmacy for $4. Also very common with antibiotics you can sometimes even get these for FREE from your local grocery store pharmacy/target/walmart.

With my horse I always ask to buy just a few days worth and then send a script into SmartPak (check that they have it first, they have a lot but they dont have everything!) and then ask your large animal vet to phone the script in. You’ll save money that way too

I get 100mg, 60 count chewables from my dog vet for about $70. SmartPack is $45 for same size, 30 count.

Last time I checked, my vet was cheaper than anywhere else.

75 mg. Qty. 60: $94 !!!

I can’t remember how much it is, but i order it from Dr. Fosters. I’m not sure that’s the cheapest price, but for the combination of heartworm/flea/tramadol/metronitazole/rimadyl that i need for my 5, that’s the best choice.

I get 60 100mg tablets of Carprofen which is generic Rimadyl for $34.95 from Kvvet. Your vet will need to write you a prescription.
