What boots are we liking for horses in Eq classes?

As show season begins to ramp up (for those of us not doing the winter circuits!) I was curious what folks are putting on their horses for equitation classes. Or not using. Brands and styles?

When I was a junior the cool thing was to make it look like your horse had a sheep tied to each of its front legs. It appears that this style is long gone. Looking at pics from North Run, Heritage, and Beacon Hill, it seems that the cool thing is now to wear black polos or a low-profile leather boot. North Run’s wear Equifit but I think they’re sponsored. My horse always looked a bit stupid with a sheep on his legs, so finally, we can be cool as we go on trail rides with black wraps on.

My daughter’s horse always wore Equifit boots in front and black polos behind.

What issue does your horse have that you are trying to correct for? Does he interfere?

I’m a fan of the equifit polos. I use them for various activities, as well as in the eq ring. In general I am also a fan of equifit boots, and they now make an eq version where the front straps are all black, as opposed to black with white stripes.

4 polos looks nice, but 2 is acceptable.

Be sure to read the care instructions carefully!

I am old fashioned, but I like simple leather boots or black polos. I do see more of the plastic and synthetic materials in the eq now, similar to what’s popular in the jumper ring. As in so many matters of attire, the range of acceptable choices has gotten wider than it was 10 years ago.
