Two Appendix QHs- the TB in them gives them plenty of go!
I used ride Arabians on the trail, now I ride a Quarter Horse.
25 year old Morab mare, 18 year old Morab gelding, and a 16 year old Percheron/Morab/QH cross mare. My gelding is the problem child of the three. Oh, and we had an older teens Standardbred mare for awhile. DH didn’t click with her and she went back to the rescue. I want my next one to be like my Morab mare.
21 year old AQHA gelding and a 12 year old molly mule that is gaited, probably out of MFT mare.
Two horses…

Quarter horse
The old cowboys here used to call a QH/TB cross a “long horse”… the horse they saved for the long ride days.
I love my morgan- I can saw branches off her back, and she loves to go.
I probably shouldn’t admit this on COTH, but my husband put a running generator on that Welsh/Belgian cross and used a Sawsall from the saddle on that TWH to clear a trail last summer.
Missouri Fox Trotter! 9 years old and an amazing partner. He spoils me :).
Paint. My breed of choice since 1990.

Oldenburg
I have two horses now, both are great on trails, and both are Tb’s. One 20 yo mare not raced/bred for sport was a show hunter when she was younger. The other is a 6 yo OTTB that I have only had a few months but is great with traffic, bikes, joggers, loud noises, and crosses water with no problems.
Welsh Cobs - 2 of them, a stallion and a gelding.
My son use to compete in competitive trail. He’s now moved out and living on the East coast working to get into school. His first mount was an awesome heavily Crabbet bred Arab mare. His second horse (after he shot up 5 inches in one year) was an Oldenburg mare.
All of us have competed on our Welsh Cob x morgan mare. She’s the bomb.
Trakehners.
Tall horses are a double edged sword - you cover the miles faster but picking your way through trees is harder. And finding things to stand on to get back on isn’t always easy.
OTTB!
two TWHs, one SSH
Mine was a TWH/Qtr cross. She LOVED to go, but was so smart and level-headed. Miss her.
Shagya-Arabians - love mine - good minds and athletic.
I have two stellar trail horses. My first is a standardbred gelding. He has competed successfully in 50’s up and down the east coast and is currently doing CTR.
The other is a Morgan… he is the most reliable horse I have ever met, totally beginner proof, and unflappable. Talk about a great brain!
Both are barefoot with amazing hooves.
I ride the steady eddy 9yr paint, my barn mates have an appy, TB/Perch (mare), Standardbred, and young qh…they all wait for the paint to go first to see if he is eaten…if he lives they follow lol
The mare attempts to lead, but just isn’t brave enough so she gets squirly and spooky until my guy reassures her and takes the lead…then she gets brave and decides to lead again…rinse repeat
