What breed is your trail horse?

Polish arab x paint. Dressage horse in his other life.

Friesian. Like trail riding a Rolls Royce.

26 year old quarter horse cross, 8 year old Mustang who is also my eventer, a 13 year old app and his 11 year old half brother. My old guy would do anything I asked and sometimes we can read each other’s mind.

Friesian. Ditto on the Rolls Royce!

Off the track Arab, and an up and coming 4yo QH that is started US and will start doing some trails once the weather breaks and he’s solid w/t/c in the ring.

15hh 19yr old Standardbred mare. World class trail blazer. Has no problem breaking anew trail. She doesn’t like to get her feet wet, but will if I ask her too. Spooks occasionally, but I think its just to keep me on my toes  She has a HUGE stride and can go all day. I wouldn’t trade her for anything.

The Cadillac’s and Lincoln’s of America’s horse breeds, the ASB and TWH since 1974.

Morgan !!

Irish Draught (various)

ISH (1/4 ID, 1/4 Arab, 1/2 TB) My current favourite. Never had a cross word or a problem with this horse from the first time he was sat on, he’s a saint.

Anglo Arab - I used to have some fun riding my little anglo pony, but I have definitely fallen out of love with riding her, not sat on her for a while but she’s a nice reliable hack.

Got a couple more IDs and a couple of IDSH to back next year and will be hacking them too.

Another Morgan here!

Mine is a Ottb mare, but I wouldn’t call her a true trail horse: when riding solo she’s a big chicken and wants to go back to the barn. But if we go with another horse she’s just fine, both leading and following.

For true trails / treks, I ride my sister’s Selle Français gelding, and Sis rides her Percheron/Arab mare.

My project horse is an 12 yo OTSTB trotter who is just now starting back to training, my other mount is a 5 yo palomino TWH mare.

My trail horse is also my 2nd level dressage horse.

He is an appy.

I have a TWH and a Spotted Saddle. Both are 23 yrs. old this year. I can’t say enough about how awesome these 2 are. I LOVE these two breeds. Not only did I get smoooooooth, I got brains too!

For years, it was a 1/2 Arab/1/2 Quarter horse used for Dressage. Very smooth and could ride with anyone. He lead, followed or got out of the way. Brave and sure footed. God Rest his soul!

Then Purebred Arab Gelding not as good due to injury, but tons of heart.

Now, it is a 1/2 Arab/1/2 Paint mare. She is good, but likes to lead. She is also somewhat stubborn. Oh well, she’s new. Eventually, I hope to have another Gelding!!

Karen

A young OTTB - she’s amazing! =)

Trakehners.

Tall horses are a double edged sword - you cover the miles faster but picking your way through trees is harder. And finding things to stand on to get back on isn’t always easy.[/QUOTE]

I have a 15 year old Andalusian-Saddlebred mare, which I bought when she was 16 months old. I had visions of her being my “we’ll get to at least 2nd Level dressage” mount and my sidesaddle mount. So, I was hoping she’d be at LEAST 16 hands tall, and 16.1h even better.

Well, as it turned out, I got off the dressage bandwagon and more into the “horse-whispery” type stuff when my mare was three. I am much more of a trail rider now, if I’m lucky doing a 25 mile CTR or a Limited Distance endurance ride once a year. She’s my trail partner now, and I am SO glad my girl stopped growing when she did… she’s 15.2h in her shoes.

Oh, and she has turned out to be a dandy sidesaddle horse, so at least that goal was attained.

26 year old draft cross gelding (now retired), ex-ranch horse been there/done that/bought the t-shirt and sold it on ebay kind of dude.

13 year old BLM mustang mare, hooves of steel and smart as a whip, she is also my dressage, jumping, and all-around do-everything kind of gal.

10 year old QH, also dabbles in dressage but getting ‘out and about’ is what he likes to do best

I ride a QH when riding with SO and a MFT when riding with the “ladies only” riding club. They all have gaited so just had to have one! I also ride a haflinger if I’m up to a challenge.

My mare is a 19yo spotted draft - she’s a product of 2 PerchxPaint crosses. 15.2hh, 1200#, and LOVES the trails.
