What Canned Cat Food Do Your Cats Eat?

The ‘Treasure’ line does include pates.

The indoor series has rice in it (I do get some every once in a while for the variety)

But there is really no ‘it’s better’ if the cat will not eat the food.
One of mine will not eat canned anything, period.
Not even tuna (and I am giving her a pass on the chicken, because that stuff is just nasty!)
And I am not going to get a chicken biscuit for her every day! (not to mention she will tear the bread open and eat it, steal doughnuts and marshmallows)

Weruva from Chewy!

I feed a mix of a commercial raw (RadCat) and canned.

I am finally down to only two kinds of canned (for 2 cats). Of course neither one likes the canned the other eats:sigh:.

My male gets Nulo. He will eat several of the varieties. He was having a constipation problem with the raw despite it containing psyllium. The Nulo has pea fiber in it and it works a charm for him.

My torbie girl gets Merrick Limited Ingredient.

Both will eat Wellness in a pinch but I am trying not to feed foods that have carrageenan which is in the Wellness but not the two I feed.

Both are fairly economical for grain free food ($1.59-1.69/5.5oz can) and they are not loaded with chunks of vegetables (they both contain a small percentage but they aren’t identifiable).

I feed the Hounds & Gatos and Wild Calling brands. It’s pretty tough to find a large variety of canned food that doesn’t have a lot of extra veggies and such and carrageenan in them. Their main diet is raw (commercial mix) though.

Friskies pate, about 5 years ago he has bladder stones while on a pretty good diet, wellness core wet and a tiny bit of dry. So we went totally wet and of course he got super picky. I tried all the really good foods but he prefers pate over chunks and only likes poultry flavors. So after rotating through lots of the high end foods for years and constantly having to change and had to take a look at our budget I switched him to the friskies pate as its numbers aren’t too bad for carbs and what not.

I feed my cats the canned food called Authority. It is a Petsmart brand. I can usually pick them up on sale for about 80 cents a can, which I think is not too bad. It generally has meat as the first ingredient, although I think it does contain some corn/gluten. My overweight cats have become cats of a much healthier weight and their fur, which was soft before, is now SO LUXURIOUS. It comes in lots of flavors…seafood, chicken, turkey, beef, pates and gravies, so lots of variety depending on you and your cat’s preferences. My kitties really love the food and they are doing great on it.

The Holistic Select and Whole Earth Farm duck don’t have carrageenan or vegetables (Holistic Select has a little vegetable powder but that’s it) and are grain-free.

I don’t understand feeding “garden greens” to obligate carnivores, but I was given a can of Fancy Feast Medleys White Meat Chicken Primavera with veggies and garden greens, and Little Miss Picky Eater scarfed it down last night and again for lunch today, so I may be buying more of it.

Why do they give cat foods such silly names? This isn’t the menu at Olive Garden. A label that says “chicken” would be fine for me and the kitties.

After all, there were times I was so poor I was feeding Her Majesty and Kozy Kitten mystery fish.

Cat ate a chipmunk the other day.
There was not much left of it when she was done: parts of the head, tail and hind legs, some innards.
I am guessing it was like the liver and the intestines.
Sure they need meat in their diets, but not all muscle meat.
And nobody field dresses mice for Puss.

Mine gets some canned food in the morning, and has a bowl of indoor cat chow to nibble on when needed. He is also very fussy about the canned food being wet enough, and the right temperature.

I ended buying plastic lids - they come in both a larger size for the Friskies, and a smaller size for the Fancy Feast. I do not refrigerate it, but leave them covered with a plastic lid after opening. The house temp is cool enough, and the food is all gone in a couple of days. Seems to do the trick.

Mine eat whatever I put in front of them

They are currently fed Blue Buffalo dry food and Whole Earth Farms morsels in gravy.

My little cats are like this and it’s SO NICE.

But my big cats are FAAAAAR less picky since I started crating to feed them. Each cat has a small dog crate and they get their bowl of wet food twice a day. After about 30 mins, everyone gets let out and bowls are picked up (actually who am I kidding–I let the kittens clean up for me.)

Super easy. Super handy. Everyone shows up for meal times (or we go looking) and I KNOW what each cat is eating or not eating. And I can feed different things with no overlap or risk.

It’s made feeding a house full of cats much less stressful.

My spoiled house cats get Taste of the Wild kibble free fed with Natural Balance pouches twice a day. I’ll be switching them to Merrick grain-free fish formula as soon as they’re out of the NB pouches.

The barn cats get free fed TSC 4-Health kibble with Friskies pate 1x a day. They definitely supplement their diets with rabbits, birds, snakes, etc. which they leave the remains for me to find in the barn.

All cats, indoor and outdoor, are in great weight with lovely coats. I don’t want to mess too much with what seems to be working.

I’m glad to hear this works for you and your kitties. I think I read somewhere years ago about other people doing this. Your post reminded me. I have a plastic lid that fits both the Friskies cans and the little Fancy Feast cans, and with the little cans, especially, and two cats, the Fancy Feast wouldn’t be sitting around at room temp for days on end, so I think I will try doing this. Especially after scrubbing Purina One off the insides of the microwave from where I nuked it for 7 seconds in an uncovered saucer.

I wish I could buy my kitties rabbit but I have never seen it for sale here, either fresh or canned for cats. I would like to feed it as it is one of cats’ natural raw foods.[/QUOTE]

Actually I have mine shipped from a place called (i love this name) Hare Today (gone tomorrow… now that is truth in advertising). It’s in PA and they ship to most places except the west coast (and have a referral to a place out there). It’s not cheap for sure, but I have a chest freezer in the garage and can store the 52lbs I buy at one time.

Cool – thanks!

I’m assuming the dog/cat formula has taurine etc. that kitties need? I’ve never heard of combining dog and cat foods but hey if it works why not? In the wild they don’t have nutrition labels!

Evangers is supplemental feeding only. It’s not complete.

Wysong is the same story.

The others can be fed without issue.

Hound and Gatos used to do a 98% rabbit that was GREAT. Haven’t seen it in a long time. Loved rabbit for my ibd kitty, but don’t want to feed her the silly stuff like blueberries. :frowning:
