What Canned Cat Food Do Your Cats Eat?

I quit feeding Friskies a couple of months ago after they started adding cheese and bacon to almost all their canned food.

I started feeding Fancy Feast, and for awhile my kitties scarfed it down, but then one got to where she wouldn’t eat it after it had been in the fridge overnight. I tried nuking it but she still wouldn’t eat it.

So I started buying Meow Mix just for her. She liked it for awhile, room temperature or cold, now she won’t eat it either. And my other kitty, who eats ANYTHING, turned her nose up at it too tonight.

The kitties are fine. They are chowing down on their dry food and their treats, and any people meat/fish I give them for treats, but they’re just not eating their canned food anymore.

What do you feed? Do you cats actually eat it? I thought about switching them to people fish/meat, but I want them to get all the taurine and other nutrients they need and get in cat food, and if I feed them people treats they won’t eat the dry cat food.
I try different flavors of the canned food so they won’t get bored, but I’m about to give up.

I had to help my small cat loose weight. She was a ball with legs.

I gave her 2 cans of Fancy Feast pate per day for 3 moths. Then made it 1 can a day and 1/3 cup of quality kibble (Oven Baked) at night. I always serve the whole can at room temperature.

She is almost at a good weight now. And she loves this new routine.

I tried several high end wet and dry foods. 4 and 5 star, grain free etc. She wouldn’t touch any of it.

I only feed the Fancy Feast Pate though. If she gets the slices with gravy, she licks all the gravy off the meat and spits it out on the floor.

Interesting. I was unaware that Friskies was adding cheese and bacon to their food. Sounds like something my SO would eat.

My Scottish fold eats the Friskies pouches. GOD FORBID you change it from anything else. He’s been eating the same 5 flavors for the past 8 years, any other deviation is unacceptable.

My girl eats Nutro Max Cat, Natural Balance pouches and Wellness Tuna. Slices in gravy only and no turkey. Anthing else is left untouched. She gets a 3 oz can 2x a day and 1 can scoop of Taste of the Wild dry per day.

It took months of trying different kinds till I figured out what would work for both of us. Im picky about quality and shes picky about flavor and texture.

Mine get Wellness and Core Wellness (grain-free)…no fish.

You could do better than fancy feast, but, glad to see you are feeding wet food. I feed Solid Gold and it is the only food my 17 year old cat will eat:eek:

friskies has so many flavors to choose from, the ‘treasures’ line with cheese or bacon are just a small selection.

Mine didn’t eat anything pate so I did hone in on the gravy styles, now I can probably feed the pates, as long as I dip it all out of the can and into a bowl.

The two tuna flavors are the biggest hit with them though.

The kittens are getting special kitty - the large can is a really soft gruel, that and soaked kibble (Purina naturals, best I could find at the grocery store)

But they can all go out and supplement with fresh raw…

Mine used to love Fancy Feast but now they’ll eat a little and leave the rest. They loved the Appetizers (the ones in the plastic tub) but when they reformulated them and new name they won’t even touch them. Some will eat Friskies Pate’, I’ve tried a variety of things, Instinct, Core, Natural Balance, Tiki, all met with no interest. I don’t mind spending more on food but not when it ends up in the trash. I still offer Fancy Feast and continue to try new foods; I also feed dry along with it. I have a multi cat household so it’s a challenge to please everyone.

Mine eat Earthborn Holistic, Tractor Supply 4Health, or Natural Balance Venison LID. I prefer the EH, but my budget likes it when I alternate with the TSC. And one of mine would gnaw his arm off for the NB Venison (only that flavor), so we rotate through.

Not all Friskies has cheese and I haven’t seen any with bacon. The most popular flavour here is chicken and gravy but they also eat chef’s blend and turkey. They also eat Whiskas chicken or beef but they are hard to find where I go shopping. The four eat one large and one small tin per day and the small tin is what ever flavours that come in the small case; they eat all those, regardless if it is indoor blend or chicken blends

Mine too! Maybe we should try spreading it on bread for them?

pretty sure that is not happening to the pate variety. All the versions of friskies with gravy, etc. (non-pate) have gluten/wheat, etc. as binders. The pate is generally considered the better variety for an obligate carnivore (it used to be grain free but I noticed rice was added - that’s the best of all evils IMO).

Classic fancy feast (aka pate) is grain free and most cats like it. Mine get it in PM along with some dry. In the AM they get raw rabbit/chicken.

Two of mine will eat anything you put in front of them, the other one redefines picky. Hes always starving. Until you put food in front of him. And when he does eat, he eats so slow I have to guard his food so the other two don’t horn in. Because you know, I have NOTHING better to do with my time.

When he boycotted raw rabbit/chicken (seriously???) I had to play around to find something grain free to replace it. I tried I don’t know how many uber expensive little cans of cat food from petco (ALL OF THEM) but he thought they were all substandard. But he seems to like freshpet cat food and a tiny tiny bit of rabbit. Just enough to say he tasted it. The freshpet is easy enough. Not cheap, but cheaper than rabbit, so there you go.

Mine will only eat the Friskies shreds style in gravy, beef flavor preferred, mashed up with a knife. I’ve tried the super pricey “natural” brands and they got a claw down rating. My $2500 vet bill “UT block” cat laps up the gravy and some of the “meat” in it, and drinks from his water fountain along with grain free dry and that’s working (fingers crossed–no blockages in a year!!). I’d happily buy a better quality canned, but the flock 'o cats has spoken…so Friskies it is!

I do Hound and Gatos for most of my crew. Have done a lot of Wild Calling in the past (the buffalo, too.) Fed Juliet Weruva. Tiki Cat is my go to when someone is sick and on a hunger strike.

The barn cat Kelso get Friskies filets to keep him visiting. I’d love to find a cheap 3 oz can, but I struggle paying more for a little can than than I would for a big can :-/

DMK, your kitties sound a lot like mine!

One of mine won’t touch any pate. She might lick a little the first day, but after a period in the fridge it is untouchable. My grocery store is small so has a small selection of foods, most of the Friskies is either pate or has bacon and/or cheese.
Today there was a special on Purina One so I bought a few cans of that – so far it has gotten a paws-down vote. So tonight we are all eating rotisserie chicken and enjoying it.

I wish I could buy my kitties rabbit but I have never seen it for sale here, either fresh or canned for cats. I would like to feed it as it is one of cats’ natural raw foods.

I feed Royal Canin adult instinctive thin slices in gravy. I also feed weruva for variety. Then I have Royal Canin Siamese for free choice in a slow feeder.

Not cheap but I have ordered pet food in bulk from Chewy or Petfood Direct. If you live where there isn’t much shopping available you might consider it. The downside is if you order a 12 or 24 can pack of food and then they don’t like it; you can order some by the individual can I think. At least you have endless varieties to try.

I order from Chewy as the prices are much better than any of the local pet stores… my cat is fairly picky but also loses the hair on her ears if she is on the grocery store brands - she eats the BFF cans… she will also eat the pouches but I do not like trying to get all the food out of the bottom of the pouch. You can try the variety pack to see which flavour they like then buy a couple different cases of the ones they decide on. Chewy also has great customer service and quick delivery!

I also buy all of my cat food through Chewy. I feed Holistic Select in both turkey and chicken, and Whole Earth Farms duck.
