What do you all think about this horses soundness?

Hard to tell— very stabby, slow and underpowered in the video. Needs to be more forward and coming from behind. In the video horse is inverted and dragging itself along with its front end. Did the horse feel off or uneven?

I agree hard to tell, and agree horse looks inverted and not in front of the leg. How old is it?

This is a really hard call without knowing this horse’s normal.

He never tracks up behind at the trot even when he goes faster. The range of movement is limited. But to see unevenness behind we need ideally a trot in hand away and toward the viewer on hard ground.

There is that bobble at about 45 seconds, but it looks like a forehand trip, which can happen to a horse not using the hind end correctly.

I currently work with two horses. My Paint has a naturally short trot (and a pragmatic attitude to effort) that takes forever to warm up. The Iberian project horse has a much larger and more athletic trot. I’ve got so used to seeing the Iberian longe free longe and liberty that when I longe the Paint every once in a while I think omg she’s crippled!! But when she warms up in turnout and plays she has a big balanced trot. And when I ride trot sets I can feel when she stops doing jig jog and starts to get some suspension.

So what’s normal for this horse? And what’s the breeding? I would worry about a TB going this short behind, I’d think SI issues. But a QH maybe just needs more schooling to reach and carry.

I don’t the rider doing anything to school the trot.

I was too busy looking at that beautiful piece of property and the gorgeous fall colors to notice the horse😄 Is that in the Blue Ridge mountains?

The tension and prolonged inverted back and high headset lend to an uncomfortable horse and possible lameness. He’s landing toe first and has limited range of motion in his shoulders. He is stiff through the back and SI. He looks sore through his entire body. Hard to say if there is a specific lameness or if he needs body work, chiro and strengthening. I would also not be surprised if he is foot sore.

Are you the same person who posted the video of this horse in the eventing forum? The horse looks a bit uncomfortable behind in both directions. Depending on how long the horse has been off the track, it could just be some soreness after racing, and the horse just needs some time.

well there could be any number of issues with the horse is a fresh track rehab. Mouth and dentistry, tack fit, fitness and body soreness.

Track horses are very ulcer prone.

Add, too , training confusion.

even carrying a rider in what we see as a normal seat is odd to a track horse. Different balance. Add the increased weigh and feel of a saddle and the rider, Stretching down or even level. All the things.

This video is not clear enough to see what is going on with precision. general reluctance to track up and go forward can be lameness or body pain but it can also be training.

If you think there is lameness / pain then a work up is in order.

nope! his ad was very popular, so I’m not surprised. I believe he has been off track since june, never raced just trained

The community here generally is not generally big on critiquing sale ads for horses not owned by the poster and without the actual owners permission. Yes, its on the net but not for critique, its trying to find a new home, hate to torpedo any chance. And nobody likes their horse and/or riding skills critqued by strangers on the net. Those who do can specifically ask on here and get plenty, no need to go after random sales ads.

Theres not enough information for any experienced horsemen to form an opinion off just a random video anyway. Video seems to be gone anyway.

If this horse is fresh off the track then he’s quite likely moving awkwardly due to a host of reasons involving change in job, in footing, and body sore from racing. If you want to evaluate a horse, get video trotting away and toward the viewer in hand on a firm surface. Then past the viewer. This is the best way to evaluate a horse, especially one that is green to the job of arena riding.
